Vogh pocketed her coins and walked away from Inlios’ cart.
She only made it a dozen strides away when a human woman in lose fitting robes approached her.
The woman holds up her hand non-threateningly and stops a stride away from Vogh.
Are you friends with the little gnome there? If someone thought he was breaking the law, would you assist them in bringing him to justice?
When the woman stopped her, Vogh just smiled, but the question hit her like a ton of bricks. Sure she was an acquaintance of his, but she didn’t know a whole lot about him especially since she had been gone for a year.
I guess I would have to hear what the charges are and if he truly did some wrong doing we would have to see what the punishment would be for such a crime.
My name is Sala. As I’m sure you’re aware it is illegal to make your own magic items in Ptolus by order of the Dreaming Apothecary. I believe your friend is making the magic items he sells.
Sala stops to judge Vogh’s reaction then continues.
I will gladly pay you to do nothing but observe him and bring any damning evidence straight to me…
Sala, I thank you for your thoughts on the matter. Who is it that hired you to come give this information? Vogh asks.
The woman sputters a bit flustered as she’s trying to answer Vogh, “Oh, well. Uh. Well. Oh, you know. No one has hired me. I just don’t see how he could be selling all those items without making them himself and I want to find out if that’s true or not.”
14:34, Today: DM, on behalf of Vogh, rolled 25 using 1d20+5. Sense Motive.
Rolled a Nat 20! 😀
As far as Vogh can tell, Sala is speaking the truth that no one has hired her.
Seeing the woman is just being curious Vogh smiles to her and says, Do you sell items as well? Is he stealing business from you? Vogh thinking she figured out why she was inquiring about the magic items.
She leans back, literally taken aback by the inquiry and vehemently denies. “Oh all the heavens above NO!”
Vogh can see more than a little fear in the woman’s eyes.
“The Dreaming Apothecary will not stand for someone making magic items to sell in the city. That’s their business. I simply want to see things are being done right and that the little gnome creature isn’t smuggling into our fair city and circumventing the proper channels.”
Again, she seems completely genuine and truthful. 14:40, Today: DM, on behalf of Vogh, rolled 22 using 1d20+5. Sense Motive.
Vogh feels for the woman, but since it is not against the law to make magic items then it isn’t something she would even consider helping her with. I am sorry I can’t help you with this Sala. As you know The Dreaming Apothecary doesn’t have the corner market on magic item crafting and even though they want to. It hasn’t become a law as of yet. So, even if my friend here is making them, he is well within his rights to do so. As for smuggling, I am not sure what you are getting at with that line of thinking.
Harumph! Fine! We will see what happens to your tiny friend after they come down on him!
Sala stomps away in a tizzy.
Vogh watches the woman go with a shrug of her shoulders as she gives a little giggle at the thought of The Dreaming Apothecary coming down hard. Inlios will have to watch his back indeed.
A thought came to her though before Sala was out of sight and she called to her. Sala, I will look into your claim. Where can I find you to give my report?
The woman stops and turns, then starts to turn and walk away once more, then stops again and turns around with a glower on her face.
She stares at Vogh for a moment then stomps back over near her.
“You better not be wasting my time young lady!” She scolds in a motherly fashion, trying to put the edge of a threat in her words. “Certainly not Danbury’s where that one spends much of his time. No, I prefer the Ghostly Minstrel. You may leave any message with Tellith, the lass there. You may tell-eth her anything and she will relay.” She chuckles are her own joke with a small smile. “I will pay you 10 gold for any information you can bring me about him, his suppliers, and his merchandise.”
She swirls away to have the last word and whisks into the crowd.
With a nod Vogh makes the mental note about the place she mentioned and the name. Vogh then herself left the area and found an alley to see if anyone was following her.
15:27, Today: DM, on behalf of Vogh, rolled 26 using 1d20+7. Search.
Vogh did not see anyone paying her any extra attention as she ducked into the nearby alley.
Now that she was alone she cast a spell on herself and walked out the other side of the alley. She then circled back around and went to Inlios again.
