Narrator
———————————————————–
Avach will move his way through the group, sheathing his sword and prepared his bow, knocking an arrow loose… (Will attack next round)

Unfortunately, everyone lost sight of the squid-man as it fled around the corner.

[Private to Vogh: Vogh can still sense his presence, and two other goblins.]

Initiative: Round 2
Bharash 24 (attacked)
Julie 20 (cast)
Deacon (nothing?)
Belie 14 (attacked)
Vogh 11 (mooved)
Talin 9 (mooved)
Kal 9 (mooved)
Avach 7 (mooved)

Round 3

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Perform a double move, sadly not enough to get past the corner.

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon moves up and has the dire bat move up.

===========================================================
Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
Julia moved forward to be close to Bharash in case something happened so she could heal him.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh still sung in her companion’s heads and her footwork still played out the fiery dance that gave her friends attacks the power of a dragon’s breath.  Vogh moved up and cast a spell to quicken the movements of her friends.

Cast Haste duration 9 rounds.

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin began to move along with Vogh and then the power of her spell took hold which made his movement that much quicker and allowed him to go a little farther than normal.

Everyone just run through this area ahead.  Julia, can you heal us on the other side once more, please?  This will hurt!  Talin braced for the inevitable pain he would feel once they entered the forbidden area.

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kalerecent charged through, unaware of the field which would hurt everyone else, and arrived at the other side unscathed. “Two more goblins!” He shouted as they cleared the corner. To everyone’s horror, the big door was open and the illithid was fleeing up a flight of stairs.

===========================================================
Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
As everyone ran through the forbiddance zone and to the other side it was clear that they were injured as Julia saw Vogh and Talin buckle over in pain as they exited the other side.

I will heal you all in one moment.  Holding her holy symbol she closed her eyes and let loose blast of healing energy to everyone.

17:16, Today: Julia Graymantle rolled 28 using 9d6.  channel.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Thank’s to Julia’s powers the group felt a shock to their system but immediately felt better. The powerful oracle’s healing removed all negative effects of the protection spell.

Everyone saw the two goblins on either side of the massive door, and those with darkvision (or telepathy) could see/sense the Illithid fleeing deeper into the Banewarrens. It was running up a flight of stairs, trapped on this plane also by Julia’s handywork.

Vogh and Talin’s eyes opened wide when they realized one of the goblins was holding something most precious, Danar’s Severed Hand which served as the Banewarrens Key! The two little brutes tried to flee beyond the door and attempted to try to close it, unfortunately – for them – the group of friends were faster.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Bharash will rush forward and attempt to keep the door open so that his friends can come through.

06:41, Today: Bharash rolled 20 using 1d20.  Strength Check (18) .

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
As Bharash ran for the door to keep it open Vogh motioned with her head to Talin to follow.

Vogh sprinted past Bharash and the goblins and right up the stairs after the mind flayer.  She couldn’t let the thing get away this time.  Especially since Julia said her spell stuck.

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin got the hint Vogh started running.  He followed and called out to the others.

Kill the goblins and get that Hand!!  Whoever is quick enough, come with Vogh and me so we can finish the mind flayer.

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kal wasn’t nearly as fast as the two bards but he gave it his best go as he too sprinted after them towards the stairs.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Avach rushed forward and cut down the goblin holding the Banewarrens key. The nimble Belie was right with him, tumbling past the goblin and stabbing the second in the back, ending its life. Both goblins lay dead at the bottom of the stairs.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Vogh and Talin, with Kalerecent a little behind, charged up the stairs. At the top a 10-foot-wide corridor went to the left and right. Each end terminated in a door. Directly across from the stairs, a fresco showed two angels, each with the tips of their wings touching to form an arch. Under them, within the arch, blazed a sun symbol. The entire fresco, however, had been marred by what appeared to be large handprints, whose touch burned the wall. These black, smeared prints seemed very old.

Both doors seemed to be the standard steel for what they had seen throughout the Banewarrens so far. However, the dust movement around the door to their right made it painfully obvious the illithid likely went that direction. (I rolled 4 on a d100… ha. poor illithid) 😀

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh and Talin ran to the door to the right and pulled on it wanting to not waste too much time.  While Kalerecent came to the top of the stairs and to the t-intersection.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Inside they saw a pool resting in the middle of this room, complete with a central fountain that once sprayed water high into the air to fall gently into the 6-foot-wide basin.

Unfortunately the basin now contained only a thick greenish-gray sludge at the bottom that
gave off an acrid aroma. A marble statue of a winged lion that once stood next to the pool now lay toppled on its side. The walls bore painted images of a four-winged angel, but the wings have been sloppily painted over with splashes of red.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
(I’ve updated roll20 so you can see the new map)

The only exit to the room was the door the bards entered through. Neither could see the Illithid, but Vogh knew it was present, in the far corner, but obviously invisible. Kalerecent clanked up the stairs behind them to secure the door.

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon will move and attempt to open the door.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Will move towards where the others are.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh saw that the room was empty but wat the mind flayer didn’t know, Vogh was able to find his mind.  As she located him she pointed to the location in the air.  She then put her blade back and pulled her bow from over her shoulder and knocked an arrow.

When the glitterdust settles Vogh let’s loose the arrow.

16:18, Today: Vogh rolled 39,25,16 using 1d20+23,1d8+19,5d6

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin saw where Vogh had pointed in the empty room and knew the mind flayer was invisible so he cast his spell that would reveal hidden things.

Cast Glitterdust. will save DC 17 to avoid blindness.

===========================================================
Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
With the goblins dead and the others racing up the stairwell Julia too makes haste up the stairs.

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Initiatives:
Bharash 24 (Moved into room)
Julia 20 (Moved to hallway)
Enemy 20 (Cast Spell)
Belie 14 (Moved into hallway readying action to attack anything)
Talin 11 (Attack)
Vogh 9 (Attack)
Kal 9 (Standing ready to attack in the door)
Avach 7 (Moved to hallway readying action to attack anything)
Deacon 6 (Moved to hallway)

Kal stood his ground in the doorway to ensure that nothing got out.  He called to Avach to watch the other direction and to be prepared to fight anything that came at them.

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin did as Vogh and put his blade away and pulled his bow out.

18:06, Today: Talin rolled 35,18,14,33,15,22 using 1d20+17,1d8+14,5d6,1d20+17,1d8+14,5d6.  Attack and Damage.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh fired off three more arrows at the glittering form of the mind flayer.

18:22, Today: Vogh rolled 23,14,18 using 1d20+22,1d8+13,5d6
18:05, Today: Vogh rolled 26,19,14,24,16,18 using 1d20+22,1d8+13,5d6,1d20+22,1d8+13,5d6.  Attack and Damage.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The tentacle beast pushed off the wall, pointed fingers outstretched at the bards with electricity crackling between them. Arrow after arrow hit the beast and shattered like they hit solid stone, but my how it screamed when Vogh’s magical fire raced over its body, not defeated by the spell. Before the dreaded mind flayer could reach them the magic holding it aloft gave out and its squishy body hit the floor with a thud, quite dead.

Bone Quaan ring
Potion of mage armor
Ring of protection +2
+1 mithral chain shirt
Cloak of Charisma +2

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
When her last arrow hit the mind flayer as it seemed he was casting a spell Vogh sucked in air only to blow it out when nothing happened and the mind flayer hit the floor dead.

Vogh turned to Talin and then behind her as Bharash showed up. Thank goodness that thing is dead! We have the hand now so lets secure it before moving on.
We should thoroughly check this room as well to make sure we dont miss anything.

Vogh then made her way over to the mind flayer and as she did she cast detect magic as well to show her what the thing had on that was magical.  Vogh stripped the beast of its items and then began to look about the room.

I will roll perception in a little bit.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Bharash is disappointed to see the Mind Flayer dead before he gets to it. Perhaps it’s a trick. Still he has no way to know.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Bharash (msg # 506):

He could stab it…

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Bharash will move over to the mind flayer and roll it over with his blades to see if there is any reaction.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
In reply to Bharash (msg # 508):

There was no reaction. Even when Bharash performed his favorite task on these pact bastards, removing the finger with the bone ring attached, the body didn’t so much as twitch.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh had watched Bharash cut off the fingers before of the other Pactlords but never while she was right next to him.  The ichor that came out of the cut appendage was nasty but at least Vogh knew that the mind flayer was indeed dead.  Besides taking all the stuff off of the mind flayer she also took out the arrows they shot at it.

Decided to take 20 to check the room giving 34 for the check around the room.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Everyone joins the bards in the room, looking about. Vogh’s keen eyes spotted a very subtle break in the carved pattern of the ceiling and asked Belie to inspect further. The rogue used his magic boots to climb up and look around the irregularity. Detecting no traps, Belie pushed the hatch up to open a vertical shaft which seemed to end in another door. The stone chimney was wide enough for a single person and had no ladder or hand holds on any of its four faces.

OOC: Please move everyone’s tokens where you wish them to be and I need to know what everyone else is doing while Vogh is searching all over the room for quite a long time.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Will guard door while they look

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Standing near the pool where Deacon is keeping an eye on all his friends best he can in case they need his assistance.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
While everyone was paying attention to the ceiling Deacon made the mistake of turning his back on the seemingly innocuous pool. Unfortunately that cost him. Black pseudopods lashed out of the pool and grabbed him, holding him fast. (24pts dmg from slam, 8dmg from acid. 21 CMB roll, so Deacon is grappled. -4 on Ref against acid. DC 21 Ref or armor/clothing dissolve. Magic items get bonus: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment/damaging-objects/)

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon yells “Help! Help!” as he tries to free himself from the tentacles.

14:35, Today: Deacon Havenhold rolled 21 using 1d20+7 ((14)). <–combat maneuver

14:38, Today: Deacon Havenhold rolled 23 using 1d20+5 ((18)). <–initiative

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Bharash hears Deacon asking for help. Bharash rushes to his friends aid striking at the tentacles.

14:40, Today: Bharash rolled 28 using 1d20+10.  Initiative.

14:43, Today: Bharash rolled 34,15,11 using 1d20+18,1d8+13,5d6.  Attack and Damage vs tentacles.

Since I go before Vogh I won’t get the warning in time, here is the save for my weapon:

06:59, Today: Bharash rolled 27 using 1d20+8.  Roll Reflex Save.

Good thing I have Weapon Versatility….it’ll be a blunt weapon next round 🙂

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh heard the call for help from Deacon while she was preparing to head up in to the secret area Belie had just opened up, she turned and saw a black substance grabbing on yo Deacon and holding him fast.  Quickly Vogh identified the thing but it was too late.  Before Vogh was about to call out to her friends Bharash moved forward and struck out with his blade.  As he slashed at the thing it suddenly split in to two.

That is a black pudding, slashing and piercing have no effect and split the creature to equal pieces.  If you hit it with any metal or wood your weapon could be destroyed.  We need to retreat and then deal with it on our ground.

She then backs out of the room.

08:46, Today: Vogh rolled 10,8,18,9 using 1d20+6,1d20+7,1d20+9,1d20+3. Initiative: Kal/Talin/Belie/Julie.
08:44, Yesterday: Vogh rolled 27 using 1d20+7. Initiative

===========================================================
Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
Julia heard the call as well but when she saw the pudding and Vogh’s call she knew what to use.

Grabbing her holy symbol she prayed and called forth two ray that streaked towards the black pudding hitting each one squarely with the force of a giants punch.

09:08, Today: Julia Graymantle rolled
25,14,
16,18
Total DMG: 32
using D20+14,4d6,d20+14,4d6.
Admonishing ray ranged touch attack and non lethal force damage.
09:04, Today: Julia rolled 25 using 1d20+8 bypass SR if needed.

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
Belie, still on the ceiling, looks down and frowns at Vogh’s explanation. The rogue’s eyes opened wide at seeing the thing split in two, seemingly unharmed by Bharash’s attacks.

“Well what are we supposed to hit it with then?!” He asked, seeing Julie blast it with some spell. “We don’t all have wagging finger magic Vogh…”

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kal was on the opposite side of the black puddings and after what Vogh had to say, Kal looked at his blade and though he kept it out before him he didn’t attack the Black pudding.

Yes, what shall we do Vogh?

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin too heard Vogh’s words and knew he couldn’t attack the thing.  He would try and figure out how to best assist Deacon in escaping the black pudding. While he exited the room just past Julia, Talin reached out and touched Deacon to heal him.
13:59, Today: Talin rolled 17 using 3d8.  healing belt 2 charges.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh heard the questions from the others.  She knew that blunt objects would harm the creature so she said, If you have blunt tipped arrows you can shoot them at it!

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
Belie looked at Kalerecent and mouthed, Blunt Arrows?! with a beyond confused look on his face. The knight simply shrugged back.

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kalerecent, hearing Vogh’s warning, will adjust his grip on his sword and swing with all his might using the flat of the wide sword rather than it’s razor sharp edge. Kal calls upon Lothian to strengthen his attack against evil (Smite Evil – Hits 22dmg to opposite one Julia hit.).

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The roiling masses of black ambled forward, the first lashed out at Bharash but the nimble warrior was able to dodge the pseudopods trying to slam and grab him. Kalerecent was less fortunate. One black tentacle slapped him and the human yelled at the burn of acid against his skin. Thankfully his armor did not melt under the touch, but the thing’s touch indeed caused the paladin a great deal of pain. Bharash winced, not wishing to experience the same.

Furthering the troubles, the pudding got two tentacles around Kal and began to crush him in its dangerous embrace.

23 points of dmg to Kal and he’s grappled.

===========================================================
Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
Julia saw Kal get grabbed by the black pudding now and as he was held fast Julia cast her spell once more.  She aimed the rays at the one that held Kal hoping she might kill it or force it to let go.

20:22, Today: Julia Graymantle rolled 34,19,29,15 using D20+14,4d6,d20+14,4d6.
20:20, Today: Julia Graymantle rolled 23 using 1d20+8 SR Check

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
As Deacon was able to back away from the black pudding, Talin moved in to attack the same one that Julia had just hit.  He adjusted his blade so that he would hit it with the flat portion of it.  As the flat of the blade hit the pudding it sank inside just a bit.  Talin wondered if it had hurt it or not.

20:49, Today: Talin rolled 25,14 using 1d20+12,1d8+8 ((13,6)).

===========================================================
Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kalerecent wrenches himself free of the pods thanks to Julie’s blast disrupting the beast. Not to be deterred or let this thing harm anyone else, he smacks it again with his sword. The paladin felt the solid hit and watch the pudding ripple, hoping he hurt the thing.

Kalerecent, rolled 23,14 dmg

===========================================================
Avach Ur-Tesstrin
———————————————————–
Avach moved forward, angling to get around his friends and followed Talin & Kalerecent’s leads, using the flat of his weapon to whack the roiling, living, mass of black sludge. He attacked the opposite one as Talin, trying to end both of these things. The entire pudding rippled with arcs of electricity that flared from Avach’s sword.

Avach Ur-Tesstrin rolled 22,13,6 : 19dmg

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Between Julia’s, Talin’s and Kal’s attacks, it was obvious the pudding they had focused on was weakening. The pods slapped out with little strength and it seemed the entire thing was shrinking under their blows. Unfortunately the other was still alive despite Avach’s electric attack.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
As her friends battled the black pudding Deacon broke free of the things grasp.  When Deacon broke free she pulled at his arm to get him behind her and to put her in the line of any danger instead.

Vogh then concentrated on her surroundings to make sure that nothing else would surprise them.

[Private to GM: Search for other intelligent creatures.]

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon attacks the pudding remaining with his quarterstaff

06:43, Today: Deacon Havenhold rolled 19,12 using 1d20+10,1d8+7.  Attack and Damage.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
Bharash uses a swift action to change the damage on his blades to B.
Bharash attacks the Black Pudding.

06:46, Today: Bharash rolled 31,21,18 using 1d20+18,1d8+13,5d6.  Attack and Damage.
Narrator, on behalf of Bharash, rolled 31,14,19 using 1d20+18,1d8+13,5d6

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
Kalerecent adjusted his focus to the other pudding after Bharash bashed the other into submission. Avach sent another shocking attack rippling over the blob. Both of the black things turned into puddles as they succumbed to the bashings.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Once the two puddings were taken care of Vogh had looked around the pool the pudding came out of and found some items of worth.  They were cleaned off and identified.

So, do we want to head up the secret passage or head the other way to check out what is there?  I vote for the secret door up there while Deacon’s spell lasts.

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
“That sounds good” Bharash replies.

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
“Well that was a close one, I don’t suppose anyone else has any healing at the moment. A low level cure light would probably do most of the trick before we head on.” Deacon asks of his party.

===========================================================
Talin
———————————————————–
Talin who was still close to Deacon walked over at the request for some healing and touch Deacon on his should.  Healing powers washed into Deacon healing him of his wounds.

Talin healed Deacon of 4 more points.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Once Talin had healed up Deacon of his wounds Vogh asked Belie to check for traps up in the secret passage.  When he said there was nothing visible she motioned for him to enter.  Bharash followed closely behind and then the others came leaving Avach in the rear of the formation.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The vertical shaft was easy for the group to traverse thanks to the spider climb spell still being active on each of them. About twenty feet they climbed, single file, until Belie checked and pushed open a second door which led them into a large, open room. A stone statue of a regal lion with feathered wings dominated the otherwise empty room.

A corridor was almost directly across from where this secret hatch opened into the room and proceeded away from them at a 45 degree angle to a t-split which went left and right. The left runnel was a room where bones and other refuse have been piled haphazardly. The room reeked of decay. The right tunnel ended in a simple door, locked, like others they had encountered.

[Private to GM: Opening the secret door in Area 36 first alerts the stone lammasu to possible intruders.

Anyone tampering with the door to Area 40 alerts it a second time.

The construct has a lammasu’s spellcasting ability “programmed” in, so when it is first
alerted, it “casts” the following spells on itself:

bull’s strength,
protection from elements (fire),
and protection from elements (lightning).

When it gets the second alert, it casts:
aid,
shield of faith,
and divine favor.

These spells grant it an additional +5 bonus to attacks, +4 bonus to damage, +2 bonus to Armor Class, and +4 hit points.

If anyone attempts to open the door into Area 40, it uses its improved invisibility power and moves out to cast silence on the door. Then it breathes its cone of petrifying gas. Next it moves in to fight with a pounce. If reduced to 10 hit points or less, it uses dimension door to go back to Area 38, re-uses improved invisibility if needed, and waits until its breath weapon recharges to move out and use
it again. In that skirmish, it attempts to keep away from foes
and uses hold person and holy smite against them.]

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
The group carefully checks out the room with the winged lion.  While looking about Vogh studies the statue to identify what it was and to see if there was any writing on the statue.

25 perception check is the highest taking 10.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
If nothing is to be found in either room they will exit out that door

Belie: Belie got it open

Vogh: Check the other door across the way Belie

It’s a vault door

Vogh urges Belie north

The eastern entry into this arched chamber clearly once held a door in its frame, but it has long since been removed. The central portion of the floor here, about 30 feet square, appears made of smoky glass. Through its dusky, translucent surface, a dark shape of great size is visible. This mysterious shape appears to have a snaky form with a long neck, four legs, and massive wings.

Floating high above the floor, but still not quite at the 50-foot ceiling, is a massive, tarnished silver throne. This 10-foot-wide throne appears designed for a nonhuman creature of great size. Its underside, hovering 30 feet above your head, bears the etched image of a swooping dragon.

Vogh tries to ID the form below the glass floor
She also asks Belie to see if the floor is trapped

The whole floor is this glass? and the dragon I am assuming is under…. is it moving?

Narrator: Yes. No.

Vogh : What type of dragon?

Narrator: Hard to tell through the flooring

Belie find any traps?

He did not, but without going further into the room it’s hard to say. The entire floor looks like unbroken glass, so unless something has a magical trigger, he cannot see anything mechanical on the floor, nor around the door frame.

Vogh: Belie want to tie yourself off and head into the room? Or you can tie me off. But I can’t check for traps like you can

Belie: *single eyebrow raise
Belie: Belie nods and holds his everburning torch as high as possible to illuminate the area
he moves to the left first, and around the room’s edges

“”This door is locked, but I’m not detecting any traps.””

“This door isn’t even locked.”

“No traps that I can detect either.”

Narrator : Now further into the room the group can see a very wide hallway”

Vogh: What is down that wide space?

The rogue moved around and high light illumnated the corridor which ended in truly massive doors.

Vogh: Stay back here by us Belie. Think it is safe for another to get on the glass?

Belie: “Maybe. Want me to open this door, or come around and back first?”

Vogh: No I will attempt to go on the glass stay close to the wall incase

Nothing happens on the glass. It’s slick, but not so bad as to need balance checks.

Belie: Belie completed the circuit without incident, and had to stare at the gigantic chair above quizzically.

Vogh: I say we try to open the door across the way first and if nothing is there we unlock this other one

This square room is empty and featureless, except for the western wall, which bears a series of 4-inch circular plates made of gold, bronze, silver, iron, marble, and wood.

Vogh: Is it easier to see through the glass anywhere in the room/

Narrator: Negative. IT’s consistent throughout

Vogh: okay Belie so nothing but plates. They must be a riddle for something? Vogh will head in and study the plates looking for wear and tear

The small round plates are arranged in five rows of six columns, each about three inches apart. Each row contains a single plate of each material, but in a random order, with no two rows the same.

Vogh: so they go all along the wall?

Narrator: Far wall

Vogh: hmmm Belie can you tell anything at all?

Belie: “No. Not really. Is it magical?”

Vogh: Vogh detects magic to see

Narrator: It is. Faintly.

Vogh: whole thing or spot?

Narrator: All the plates

Vogh: Okay Vogh will touch the gold plate. does it feel solid? push in?

Narrator: They do feel solid, like they will not move. It’s possible they are all attached to one another, then even anchored to the wall in some manner

Vogh: okay Belie should I touch another gold or a different color? I am thinking another gold..

Belie: “I’m not sure. Maybe one of each?”

Vogh: That would seem too complicated in my honest opinion

Belie: “Is anything in here simple?”

Vogh: No Julia can you dispel the magic?

Vogh: Julia attempts to dispel the magic

Vogh: If Vogh doesn’t see magic anymore she touches the rest of the gold plates from the top down

Narrator: Nothing happens

Eventually Vogh’s eyes see the magic fade back into existence

Vogh: she then goes from the bottom up gold how long does it take?

Narrator: 3 rounds

Vogh: so I should be able to push at least 2 colors?

Narrator: you could push all of them unless you were going REALLY slow.

Vogh: next I do silver from bottom up and then top down

Narrator: You can push them all you want, but while the magic is suppressed, nothing is going to happen.

Vogh: okay gold then gold when magic is back

A force effect blasts out from the discs and hits both Belie and Vogh

Belie: “Ouch!”

Vogh: Yea not good, okay stand back everyone. I will try a different way this time gold on bottom and next up

Narrator: Another blast of force.

Vogh: Vogh about jumps out of her boots this time

Vogh: Well now that one hurt. I think I can keep going though. I am going to try the silver this time.

Vogh: Top down

Narrator: Silver first, then what?

Vogh: silver next

Narrator: No shock

Vogh: Vogh turned to the others with a smile then touched another silver

Narrator: No shock

Vogh: She was getting cocky then and touched another silver

Narrator: No shock

Vogh: 5th next and then the 6th

Narrator: No shock. Is the door open or closed?

Vogh: Open for a quick exit if needed

Narrator: Nothing seems to happen

Vogh: You all see anything?

Narrator: Deacon and Avach were looking out the door and pointed. “Indeed…” Avach said. The glass floor was rippling and seeming to become less substantial, almost like it was becoming water.

Vogh: Everyone moves to see this. weapons drawn and Vogh even begins with her music

Narrator: Another few heartbeats and the glass is completely gone, disappeared into nothingness and a Silver Dragon explodes upward in motion, facing away from the group. Its roar was so powerful the entire Banewarrens shook with its might.

Vogh
———————————————————–
When Vogh saw the very large Silver Dragon through the archway she made her way to the front of the group even as it roared so loud it shook the very foundation of the banewarrens.  Vogh could feel the physical power and frightening presence of the dragon, but the banner that had aided the group in combating the stunning effects of the mind flayer also steeled them against the fear from the dragon.

Vogh now at the front of the group, stepped out into the room with her arms raised and blade back in its sheath.  She could see Bharash off to her left as he too moved to the front.  Clearly, his silver dragon heritage was pulling him closer to this magnificent creature before them as it had Vogh.  Oh, mighty Silver!  Vogh started.  Your very might and magnificence are evident as even your very roar almost brought down these evil warrens.  We are not here to battle you… No, we have freed you from your prison!

As soon as Vogh stepped out onto the glass the dragon whirled and blasted a cone of cold at the group (56 dmg. Ref. 26 = half) which struck everyone, the wall partially protecting some.

Just after the freezing breath washed over the group, teeth chattering from the cold, Vogh shouted her diplomatic speech to the dragon. It narrowed its eyes and folded its wings, then backed to the corner farthest the group. With its long, serpentine tail curled around to its right it regarded Vogh and all those in the room.

Without speaking it looked all about the room, at its throne floating above then it focused for a long time on the people in its lair. Finally after several minutes the huge dragon spoke. His voice reverberated off the walls and sounded like a deep wind howling.

“Who are you? What are you doing here? You are clearly none of you evil, lest I would destroy you immediately. Which had better mean you are not servants of Eslathagos Malkith…”

The dragon hissed the final phrase which promised certain death were they followers of the long dead, Dread One.

Dang your rolls! DC 25 Diplomacy to calm him. Freaking bards. I had to get one thing in there at least!

Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh really took the brunt of the cone of cold that erupted from the great silver dragon. As she said her words through chattering teeth and shivers through her entire body Vogh was relieved that the dragon had stopped at least temporarily at her words.

Oh great one, my name is Vogh Kath of House Kath and these are my friends.  Vogh hoped that the name registered with the silver and she also introduced the others.  We have come to the banewarrens because there was word that they might have been breached.
The Lothian church hired us to see if it were true. When we discovered it had indeed been breached we were sent back to see if and how we could reseal the banewarrens so that those wanting to attain items of evil to do evil things could be stopped from doing so.  We happened upon your tomb here and managed to free you but not without harm.

Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
Julia felt the cold sting from the dragons breath as it formed icicles about her face and clothes.  The cold was almost too much for her but thankfully she held on.

Hold tight everyone I will heal you.    Julia said quickly as she saw Deacon collapse to the ground almost frozen solid.

Julia loosely held aloft her holy symbol and channel healing energies to her companions.
Healed everyone of 50 points.

Feeling the warmth take over her body Julia stretched her limbs once more, the feeling having returned.

Saggarintys the Silver King

The great silver sat back on his haunches and curled both wings about his chest, tail laid across his great foreclaws as he regarded them from high above.

“Speak plainly humans-woman. House Kath? Lothian church? I know none of these names. What year is it?”

Upon seeing Bharash step out of the room the dragon sucked in its breath in a hiss through its sword length teeth and recoiled its head back. Then in his booming voice that almost hurt the mortals’ ears he bellowed, “What unholy abomination is this?! Are you man or dragon?!”

Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh felt the warmth from Julia’s channeling wash over her body warming her and strengthening her.  Her teeth had stopped chattering and so her next words to answer the dragon were much more clear.  The year is 721.  Outside these warrens is a sprawling city built around the spire itself.

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
“Seven HUNDRED and twenty one? What is the zero marker used for such a date?” The great Silver turned his head sideways in a quizzical look.

When it was explained how the empire was founded, and 1 IA marked the Age of the Empire of Tarsis beginning the dragon shook his head at everything.

“Tell me this, what year did Ni-Gorth overthrow Father Claw and chain him? What year do you mark as when the Galchutt assailed the town above and destroyed it all but the Shard Castle?”

Frustratingly none of them had the answers. Vogh and Talin had heard of these Galchutt, some powerful evil not to be disturbed. But no one could figure out the year markers Saggarintys was discussing.

Finally something occurred to Vogh. “Great One! How long ago, by your reconing, was the city of Ptolus founded?”

Saggarintys nodded and said it was founded almost exactly 2,000 years before Danar began building the Banewarrens. “Danar built the vault Tremoc Korin to house all these evil artifacts and “banes,” including chaositech that survived the centuries since the Galchutt went to sleep. We constructed these bane-warrens beneath his fortress of Mosul Pearl. Danar’s wife, Parnaith was a powerful sorcerer and she anchored the Seven Etheral Islands around the fortress. None of us foresaw the world itself rejecting all these objects of evil being concentrated in one area, thus thrusting everything toward the sky, placing Mosul Pearl, now known as Jabel Shammar after Danar became the Dread One, Eslathagos Malkith, several thousand feet in the air atop the spire.”

The great silver shook his head from the memories. “Yes, Ptolus was founded 2,000 years before Danar began construction. We all worked together for over two centuries before that foul book corrupted him. It was then he imprisoned me. Since you’re here I can only assume the Dread One was thrown down? Or does he yet still live? Un-live rather, as he was no longer a man. Rather, how long has it been since Ptolus was founded by your year reconing?”

Everyone looked around in shock at the timeline just revealed by the Dragon and Vogh was nervous to tell him the truth of his prison term.

“Great One, we mark Ptolus’ founding as 9,500 years before the Empire’s founding. It’s been seven hundred and forty one years since Tarsis was established, which means it’s been over 10,000 years by our calendar since Ptolus was founded.”

Seeing a silver dragon’s jaw drop open was truly an unsettling sight, but that was exactly how he took the news.

“I’ve been trapped… for over seven thousand years…”

Kalerecent
———————————————————–
Kalerecent could feel the doubting in the voice of the dragon.  He felt for the obviously noble dragon.  The thing had been trapped here for many lifetimes.  Kal bowed to the dragon as he too stepped forward.  He had placed his blade back in its sheath once the conversation with Vogh had begun not wanting to seem threatening.

Mighty Silver, my name is Sir Kalerecent.  I am a paladin of Lothian a good god of justice and purity.  I have joined these adventurers to aid them in their quest to seal the warrens.  7000 years certainly is a long time!  I can’t even imagine what you must be thinking or feeling.  We would like to help you whatever it is you would want.

Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
“My name is Saggarintys the Silver King. Thank you for freeing me.”

He asked them seemingly endless questions about what had happened over the years while he was trapped. Being a dragon, he seemed only moderately interested in the characters’ specific goals and concerns and more interested in the wider happenings.

“I must check on which banes are left undisturbed and which might have been taken. By Bahamut I hope none. I must go to the warding generator. The device will also help me assess the status of the warrens. Have you seen the generators? They are a marvel feat of engineering and magic. Did you know they were my design? I proposed them and worked with Danar and Parnaith.”

In order to exit the large chamber Saggarintys began to change shape and assumed the form of a very muscled elf, with silver skin. He was also quite nude but seemed not to care at all. The silver dragon walked down the hallway which the group had come down before finding him. He continued to speak and ask questions, while also pointing out elements of the Banewarrens as they walked.

“I know not whether you came through here or not…” he gestured to the door they had indeed just exited, “… but the sphinx status in there is quite magical. Do NOT disturb this vault door, as the sphinx is keyed to attack anyone who does and it’s rather powerful.'” Saggarintys then gestured to the vault door opposite, “This is the Vault of Curses. Inside is a cylinder which contains thousands of minor curses. See to it you don’t bother any and lose them on the world again…”

Next he proceeded forward into a large room. Everyone walked through silver archways which decorated both entrances. The vaulted ceiling was at least 35 feet high, and was completely covered in painted frescoes of cavorting angels and metallic dragons. “Ah yes… Wonderful memories…”

The Silver King proceeded through the room into another corridor which seemed to dead end. Unbothered by the stone wall facing him, he reached out and touched the door, swinging it open into another large room.

The plaster-covered walls here were peeling and chipped. Bronze torch sconces on the walls appeared tarnished and empty. “Ah. More’s the pitty. What a mess.” With a tisk-tisk the dragon-turned-elf walked into the large room with high ceilings and a single door to their right.

Everyone balanced as three disgusting spectres rose up and became visible, hovering in the air, incorporeal, flying straight for Saggarintys.

“What are you?! Accursed creatures! BEGONE!”

Opening his elven mouth the dragon blasted out a cone of ice and freezing cold which chilled the entire room several degrees.  The undead didn’t stand a chance against the bared power of the drake. To a one the trio froze into blocks of ice, fell to the floor and shattered into thousands of pieces.

“Filthy! The undead should all be dead!”

Through the single door Saggarintys proceeded, immediately to open a large pair of double doors. A 30-foot-wide hallway had two angular alcoves on either side. In front of each alcove was a pair of life-size stone statues; eight statues in all. One showed a middle-aged human man in robes; one a woman in robes holding a long, jeweled necklace; a regal knight in plate armor; an angel with a flaming sword; another angel with four wings; a humanoid dragon-man in a breastplate with an axe; a woman with feathered wings and a serpentine tail, holding a harp; and a brutish-looking ogre with a surprisingly serene expression. A staircase led down to the south with the north of the hall ending in the set of double doors through which they just proceeded.

Full Size: https://ptol.us/wp-content/uplo…-The-Banewarrens.jpg

“Take care not to enter here through the south entrance. If you do, a prismatic wall will appear across the hall, blocking your path. There is a pattern to the statues which disables it, but I can’t remember it right now.”

Together everyone descended the stairs to an intersection. A door was immediately to their right, to the left the hall opened to reveal a very wide hall, then proceeded beyond at its normal size. Saggarintys proceeded beyond the wide opening, which led into a large room with another of the towering generators the group had seen. The dragon passed on Vault Door and reached a second, whose seal was broken and the door stood open.

“Damn all five of Tiamut’s heads!” A pedestal in the middle of the chamber sat empty

Shaking his head in disgust the elf-dragon walked around the corner. Another Vault Door had clearly been disturbed. The silver looked it over a moment, then pulled the door open. The thick, foreboding door opened easily. Three ancient corpses, little more than bones now, littered the floor before two empty shelves set into the western wall.

“Oh curse all the curses of this plane. Yet another one is missing. Tiamut take you Dread One.”

One more vault door stood beyond this one, then the end of the hallway looked foreboding. There was once a door in the entrance to this room, but it was clearly torn off its hinges. In the doorway, someone had placed a number of aged bones in a cross pattern.

The entire area felt cold as they approached it. The dampness on the floor and walls seemed on the verge of turning to frost.A circular pit occupied the center of the room, deep and dark. All around the edges of the pit, everyone could see delicately traced runes, glyphs, and symbols. They glisten with the whiteness of snow.

“Do not enter there my friends. I’ll not take the chance we disturb the creature inside. Another door must needs be fashioned immediately after I complete my survey.”

Stepping back the dragon’s elf eyes looked over the Vault Door before him, narrowing in inspection.

“This door was opened, then resealed, but not properly. Why would any of the Dread One’s reseal a bane vault? There is also magic upon the door, a spell.” Speaking in the draconic language the elf-dragon waved his hand over the door then nodded in satisfaction DC for Spellcraft reveals Dispel Magic

After using his draconic magic, the silver simply pulled the door open with no locks apparently in place. The room held an iron box, wrapped in chains and padlocked. A crudely painted black skull covered the western wall.

“This is not supposed to be here.”

Approaching it carefully the silver eyed it and walked around the box. Anyone watching closely could see his eyes changing from that of a normal elf or human, to the more serpentine eyes of a dragon, then back once more.

“I sense no evil here my friends…”

Kneeling down Saggarintys merely took the padlock in hand and crushed it in his grip, then removed the chains and opened the box. Inside was an assortment of interesting items, all of which glowed with an aura of good to any who could see such things.

“Ah. It seems the evil servants did not want such items used against them. Take them my friends. Perhaps they can benefit you.”

Inside was a mace which glowed with goodness, five crossbow bolts which similarly glowed, a small pearl, and a ring.

The Silver King stood and left the room, heading back the way he came. Once he reached the entrance to the warding generator room he transformed back into his natural form.

“Thank Bahamut. It’s still intact and operational.”

With his long legs and powerful body the dragon stepped down from the grating to the floor some ten feet below. The ledge in the room abued an iron mesh catwalk that formed the upper of this chamber’s two levels. At the bottom, a huge metal device like an iron tower topped with a bronze sphere rose at least 30 feet high. The catwalk followed the wall, 25 feet above the lower level.

The cylindrical central tower had a 10-foot diameter. A number of jointed metallic extensions, like the legs of an insect, extend from the tower and connect to the ground, or simply jut out into the air at all angles. The top sphere measured about 15 feet across, representing half the structure’s total height. A series of curved plates comprised its bronze skin, fit together carefully. Each plate bore a single etched arcane rune; a few of them depicted images of dragons.

On the far side of the room was a strange room which ended in double doors. A reflective coating covered all the surfaces in this long, 20-foot-wide north-south hallway. Moreover, the reflective material was faceted slightly so that any light shimmered down the passage in prismatic splendor. On the eastern side of the corridor, there was a small steel door. At the southern end, matched gold and silver doors stood firmly closed.

“I must remain here and meditate for a while. The generators can answer my questions.”

Vogh
———————————————————–
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_mxYKzEjms
Take a peek at this and tell me what you think..

Saggarintys the Silver King, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Vogh had said with a slight bow of her own following Kal’s movements.

Vogh and the others tried to successfully answer the questions about what they were able to tell which included many things that they had also read about in books.

When the Silver said he needed to see what banes were left undisturbed, Vogh commented, We have done our best to keep Vault doors secured. We had been in search of the key and have finally secured it. So, hopefully no more vault door will be opened. In the outer warrens many of the banes have been released or taken. We have managed to take control of some of the items that were taken and are in the process of redeeming them. We have destroyed one bane that was released, but there is one that escaped us. Vogh goes on to describe the blue troll that could go ethereal.

When Saggarintys began to reform and became a rather handsome elf with silver skin Vogh’s couldn’t take her eyes off him until he began to move away and into the hallway. When Saggarintys mentioned the sphinx the others could only nod. They had no idea that it was something that was guarding. Vogh asked then, Are all the statues in the warrens guardians? We have come across many statues and it would be nice to know which are defenders and which aren’t.

As the group followed Saggarintys around Vogh kept her eyes open looking at all the painted frescos of angels and dragons. As he entered the next place and the spectres rose up. Vogh had begun to sing her music to bolster her friends which now included Saggarintys. When Saggarintys breathed his frozen breath at the spectres and they froze and fell to the ground only to shatter Vogh was shocked by just how easy the dragon could deal with such powerful undead. Vogh did laugh at the quip Saggarintys made though. Julia as well gave a soft giggle from the middle of the group.

When they got to the room with the statues, Vogh asked if they too would come to life. Just before they exited the room and Saggarintys had said that a prismatic wall would appear if they came from the other way Vogh asked, do you know if there is a way to dispel the wall other than by magic? A lever or password or something?

As they continued on and came to other rooms Vogh became worried. There were other vault doors that were open. How are these doors open? Is there another way to open these doors besides the Hand of Danar? Vogh asked and when Vogh looked inside the room and saw the shelves empty she asked Saggarintys if he knew what the banes were so they could keep an eye out for them?

When they got to the broken doors and the bones in a cross Vogh asked, do you have any idea what this means? When he answered and they moved on to the other area with the cold, Saggarintys warned them about the place and Vogh took note of the location.

When Saggarintys asked the question about the failed resealed door Vogh said, I thought the only way to reseal a door was with the sealing rod? As Saggarintys answered and then cast a spell on the door dispelling whatever was cast there, Vogh noted the iron box that was suspended in chains and the black skull on the wall. Vogh shrugged her shoulders at Saggarintys’s comments and watched him break open the box to reveal its contents. When he, a silver dragon, handed her the items Vogh quickly discerned their magical traits. A mace of disruption was a powerful weapon against undead indeed. Vogh knew that Julia was adept at fighting undead and this would make her even more capable so she handed it to her. The bolts were clearly holy as well and since no one seemed to use a crossbow, she placed them in her pack. The next was the pearl and once more she looked to Julia and said, this will help you recall spells of second level. The ring was a nice find as well and would be handed out when they all could talk.

With the room cleared the group kept moving on. Saggarintys finally arrived in a room with another generator inside. Vogh explained that they were in the process of repairing one of the generators below. Saggarintys had explained that he must remain to meditate so the generator could answer his questions, Vogh frowned slightly. The silver could be a great boon against the evils they would find further. Vogh asked a few more questions, before we move on with our quest to seal the warrens, I must ask. How will you get out if we seal it? Is there a way we can contact you before we do finally seal the warrens? I wouldn’t want to seal you inside. Also, do you know about these doors and what is on the other side? Would you know where the sealing rod is located and how we might get there?

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Saggarintys soaked up everything Vogh and anyone had to offer about the centuries, nay millenia, that passed with the silver in stasis. Upon Vogh’s statement they had secured the Key, Danar’s own hand, the dragon-elf whirled with wide eyes.

“Truly? You have Danar’s hand? As I am certain you are already aware, his touch is all that will open the Sealed Doors.” The silver sheened humanoid nodded in contemplation, spun on his heel and resumed walking.

“Which bane did you destroy? Danar believed the evil of a bane was released upon its destruction, allowing its evil to return into the world. I shared that belief, but now with these warrens exposed, perhaps we should have destroyed the specific evils. For who knows whether such power would be used again. And even so, its takes a powerful evil to create such evil and would not such creatures always create more items, diseases, banes? Bah!”

The silver shook his long hair in frustration at his own logic. He seemed not to worry much after the ethereal troll. Likely he had greater things on his mind.

“It is good you disturbed none of the vaults. See to it you avoid doing so.”

With little effort the dragon-elf destroyed the undead, much to the groups amazement. Afterward Vogh questioned about the statues of the warrens.

“Many of the statues are indeed magical constructs, but many are also simply works of art. You must understand, at the beginning this was Danar and Parnaith’s home, their sanctuary. Mosul Pearl was originally a wondrous and magical creation. A beauty to behold. This, these warrens, were not a place controlled, or even tainted, by evil when we worked here my friends. No! These halls were filled with the power of good gods, infused with sanctity and sanctuary! Bah! What a cataclysmic the fool committed when he read from that damnable book!”

Frozen mist exploded from the “elf’s” mouth in disgust with the final statement. Saggarintys refocused himself to further answer Vogh’s question.

“So no. Many of the works are merely decorative. Artwork Danar and Parnaith enjoyed. It seems many of the frescoes have been destroyed the fiends who walked the halls as the Dread One’s slaves. These statues are part of the prismatic wall mechanism. But they will not come to live. I cannot remember the combination at the moment my friends. My meditations will aid my memory. I’ve been asleep for so long…” The dragon shook his head in frustration as he continued at a brisk walking pace.

In regard to opening the vault doors Saggarintys turned his head in confusion then nodded in understanding the woman’s confusion.

“No. No Miss Vogh. Danar’s hand is merely required to open the Sealed Doors which separate each section of the warrens. His hand can and will open a Vault door of course, but the Vault doors were not as heavily protected. These vaults are open because, as the Dread One, Danar and his filthy followers opened them. I know not what was once in these rooms, but I’ll soon know once again. No. No. Again I say, there are Vault Doors and Sealed Doors. You must have passed through at least one of the large Sealed doors? Only the sealing rod can secure those. A Vault Door can be sealed mechanically, magically and then with the special coating to further the protection. Unfortunately such protections are not as powerful, but they should have been enough had Danar not turned. If the generators are working, or restored, then we should be able to seal the warrens once more.”

At Vogh’s explanation of “them” working to repair a generator he stopped once more and regarded them all quizzically. “How is it you would know how to work on one of the generators?” He listened to her explanation then moved on to answer her final questions.

“Get out? My dear, it was my intention to live out the rest of my many days with my friends, protecting these evils. Were we able to seal these evil entities once more, gladly would I remain until the twilight takes me. What greater purpose could I serve than to defend the world against these blights on all sentient beings? No. I’ll not leave.”

Regarding the doors Saggarintys explained what he remembered. “Beyond the door at the bottom of the stairs was our Temple and Reliquary. It would not surprise me to know its been perverted and twisted after Danar’s fall. These doors… hrm…” The now transformed dragon tapped a claw thoughtfully against his shimmering silver scaled chin then he snapped his phalanges which sounded more like two swords clashing. “Yes. Yes! Beyond the double doors is the Vault of Nightmares. Danar managed to even trap evil dreams and trapped them away in there. The fool thought he could remove any ill even from those asleep.” It was clear the dragon held no malice in the usage of the word fool, but rather, his resonating voice was twinged with sorrow in remembrance of his fallen friend.

“One of the other rooms contains the Doom Fog. A rather nasty bag of evil that reprobate. None-the-less, the sealing rod. Danar always kept it on his person, but obviously I’ve not seen him since he, no, not he, but since the  Dread One imprisoned me. If he has indeed fallen then you’ll likely find it deeper in the Banewarrens. Take care my friends. I will be here.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Listening to all that Saggarintys had to say about her questions, Vogh was most surprised by the response that he had when Vogh had asked how he would get out.  Since it was his wish to stay and make sure that the banes were guarded Vogh could only smile and say, You are a noble one Saggarintys, I admire that.

When at last Saggarintys settled in at the generator Vogh thanked him for everything, I promise you we will try to make it back to check on you before we leave if it is possible.  Which direction will take us to the next level?  Was the last question Vogh had before they headed off.

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
“Take care my friends. I know not what awaits you deeper in these Warrens. I owe you my life, my freedom, so I will aid in any capacity possible. But I must remain here to learn from the generators what I may. To proceed deeper you will find a secret door to the right of the magical fountain in the room beyond where you freed me. When first you enter, my wondrous creation will ask of you a question. ‘What does it mean to be good?’ You most answer, ‘Good protects the innocent and punish evil.’ Upon doing so the secret door will open, and, by dragon magic, take a vial of the fountain water. Your first drink will contain powerful healing, but subsequent drinks will merely sate your thirst. Beyond there you will enter the Bane Heart, Tremoc Korin. (Sp?) This is the center of the spire and ascends thousands of feet. Take exceeding care… For the baneheart, the spire, contains the most evil of all the evils here. Anything you’ve seen before now are mere trinkets compared to the items, and beings, trapped there. I know not what awaits you as I was trapped when first Danar turned. Proceed with the utmost caution and care. If you truly find the staff, return here and I will accompany you to seal every door and escort you to safety. With any help from the gods this place will be forgotten to time eternal.”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
We will for sure come back Saggarintys and together we can reseal this place.  Those were the final words Vogh said as she began to leave the room and headed towards the room with the statues.  Vogh honestly wanted to get this completed and didn’t want to wander around this level much longer when she had a feeling the sealing rod was in the Baneheart or farther up.

When they returned to the room with the statues she helped Belie figure out the way to dispell the prismatic wall that had appeared before them at the end of the hall.

We will take 20 on the searching to find what we need to dispel the wall.

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
The rogue looked all around the room, with his companions’ help, but found no trigger or device to disable the powerful spell which created the colored wall blocking their path. However, Belie did figure one thing out.

“It appears each one of these statues rest on a hidden, recessed plate which will allow them to pivot. They move rather easily, despite their size, and there seems to be two notches. Left, and Right. It appears all of them are currently in the ‘left’ position. It would be too simple to just turn them all to the right, wouldn’t it? Plus… the last time we did trial and error, Vogh got blasted…”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh had looked all about the room for signs of a disabling device, but as she was about to give up Belie’s keen eyes had spotted something.  Marvelous Belie, though I don’t like the prospect of trying the positioning the statues, it may be the only option we have.  Then something came to Vogh.  Deacon do you have any spell that can manipulate the statues to a correct position?  It would be a lot safer than trying them ourselves and getting shocked like last time.

Vogh knew Deacon could cast elementals to this plane, but she didn’t know if he still had the ability for the day.

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon too had been looking about the room for clues and when Vogh asked the question of him he nodded, Yes, I certainly can call in some elementals to move the statues about.  If something happens to them while performing the act then we will know that we should not try it ourselves.  It certainly would be good if we had some clue to this.

Vogh why don’t you go ask Saggarintys if he knows the sequence? If he knows that the statues move then perhaps that will aid him in remembering.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh took the suggestion and walked over to talk with Saggarintys once more.  Oh great Saggarintys, I am sorry for the disturbance but we have found that the statues move left and right which must be how the wall is dispelled.  Would you happen to know what the correct order is in which we need to move them?

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Saggarintys was curled up around the generator with his eyes closed and his breathing slow. It took Vogh several attempts before the great, silver dragon opened his eyes. He blinked to bring himself back to focus on the tiny human before him.

“Alas my friend, I do not. It has been too long and the wall did not activate at my presence. However, if you simply proceed through the Chapel the northern door will take you to the Sanctification Chamber, and the northern door there will return you to the stairs. You may then use the trap doors once more into the Sphinx room and retrace your steps. Please do not disturb me again for some time. It takes a great deal of focus and effort to work through the generators’ magic.”

With that the giant scaled being closed his eyes once more.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh frowned at the news.  She had thought that perhaps the information could have jogged the dragons memory but it wasn’t to be so as he closed his eyes once more in meditation, Vogh turned and left him without another word.

When she got back to the other room Vogh told the others, Saggarintys didn’t have any further memory of how to eliminate the prismatic wall.  He did mention that we could head through the door at the end of the stairs to the right though.  He said we could head through the Chapel and through the northern door which leads back to the way we initially came down.  I think we should just head that way and back up through the trap door we found.

Narrator
———————————————————–
The door to this room was a normal door and unlocked.

White marble tiles cover the uneven floor here, while cracked plaster coated the walls. Painted frescoes showing scenes of saintly figures and angelic beings have been crudely defaced. Between them stood a painted wood screen, its artwork similarly defaced. An altar of gold with a white marble top had been sundered in two parts, which remained next to each other in the middle of the room. Two incense burners sat atop the altar, along with a crystal bowl. A dark stain on the ground around the split altar almost looked like dried blood that oozed from a bleeding wound. The smell of scorched stone lingered in the air, and a soft glow came from the south.

Julie could immediately sense the evil that pervaded the room, even sensing the effects of an unhallow spell which assailed her sensibilities.

The southwest corner had a long white table with silver inlay, on which sat six covered trays of ornately engraved silver. In the southeast corner, another table covered in a white silk cloth bore a number of silver cloaks and a stoppered crystal flasks appropriate for holding holy water.

A very wide corridor led to yet another room. This large room was very dimly lit by candles arrayed on shelves built into the walls. A central dais raised a foot off the ground, and in the center of it lay a box of gold and white stone. A black silk cloth lay on the dais next to the box. The room felt cold, smelled of musk, and echoed with the sound of low, evil chants.

[Private to GM: The box measured about 18 inches long and 10 inches wide and tall. ]

Julia Graymantle
———————————————————–
As soon as Julia had entered the door and into the Chapel she knew something was considerably off.  She could feel the evil in her bones as it resonated throughout the room.

Vogh, this place has an unhallow spell cast upon it.  Julia remarked as she gazed over to the alter that was broken in twain.  I don’t like the feel nor the look of this place.  Julia, of course, couldn’t really see into the next room because of her vision but she could sense the evil.  We need to rid the place of this evil.  Julia having trained against undead knew that something was here she just couldn’t see it yet.

With that said Julia begins a prayer and when it is finished everyone feels protected from Evil.
Cast protection from evil communal

4000!!!!

When Julia warns of the evil and the unhallow spell that is in place, Vogh immediately begins to send out her song in her friend’s minds.  Vogh pulls her blade and readies to defend against whatever is in the place.

Everyone else sees Vogh pull out her blade and likewise pulls their weapons out as well.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–

Once Vogh pulls out her weapon she motions for the others to move further into the room. When the get past the broken alter, a man materializes before them in the other room. He begins talking blasphemous things and suddenly Julia screams out that she no longer feels the touch of Lothian in her heart. Shen the others hear this, Bharash, Talin, and Kalerecent spring to action and charge the man with their blades drawn.

Just after reaching the middle of the hallway between the two rooms a trap is sprung which releases electrical bolts of lightning at them. Clenching their teeth through the pain they continue forward and just as they are about to engage the man in combat they feel a strange sensation pull at them. Bharash and Kalerecent manage to resist the pull but Talin fails and is suddenly teleported back to the beginning of the hallway and as he appears once more lightning reaches out and strikes him again. So, Talin falls back to Vogh and the rest.

Bharash strikes out twice at the man opening wounds on his exposed shoulder, while Kalerecent decides to smite the evil before him with a mighty blow. Now smited the man tries to punch Kalerecent but the blow is deflected just in time. Deacon seeing that he can’t do much from his position decides to cast a spell. As the spell goes off an acid arrow shoots from his hands and strikes the man squarely causing obvious discomfort. Avach takes his bow out and shoots an arrow at the man which narrowly misses the man as he dodges the missile coming at him. Vogh takes out her bow as she moves to a better position, her footwork raising the fires deep inside her friends to enhance their strikes. At the same time Julia asks Belie if he can eliminate the obvious trap in the hallway.

Talin now wounded pretty badly takes out his bow and shoots an arrow which strikes true, but doesn’t seem to injure the man as much as it should have, which tells Talin that the man has some resistance to fire as well. Bharash strikes at the man again but this time the armor defeats his attacks. Kalerecent likewise has trouble penetrating the man’s armor. The man, now quite beat down from the adventurers turns to mist and moves away from them and into the wall nearby but not before Bharash is able to strike at him once more inflicting more damage to his gaseous form.

With the man now seemingly gone and the room more silent the group hears a soft chanting. Kal tries to discern its origin only to find that it is all over the room. Meanwhile, Belie is still working on the trap while still being unsuccessful at disarming it. Vogh decides to pull everyone back to the room where they left the great Silver Dragon Saggarintys. Vogh thought it may be a good idea to tell him of what they found in the chapel and to see if he can assist in eliminating the threat. I am sorry for the intrusion. Surely I thought that I would not need to come to you so soon again but in the chapel there is a man, that I believe to be a vampire of great power, that resides over the chapel. Before we were able to kill it, it turned to gaseous form and seeped into the walls. We know not where it is and wanted to warn you and to see if you can eliminate it like you did the spectres.

Vogh
———————————————————–
When Vogh saw that her words fell on deaf ears as the giant dragon just lay there with its eyes closed, Vogh knew they wouldn’t receive any more help from the great silver dragon.

Well, I guess we could go try to eliminate the prismatic wall once more.  Deacon, can you summon some of those elementals you had before and we can try to figure out the configuration of the statues to disengage the wall trap?  Vogh had asked Deacon.

When he nodded, they all went over to the room and after conjuring the earth elementals Deacon instructed them to begin turning the statues to find the right way.  Once the elementals had done it a few times without the wall falling or disappearing and nothing happening to the elementals, Vogh had a feeling there weren’t any more traps.

When the elementals finally went back to their plane Vogh and the others took up the positioning of the statues.  It took some time but finally, Vogh and the others, not Deacon, of course, heard a noise coming from the direction of the wall.

After almost 2 hours of trial and error the group finally found the correct order of A,C,D,G,H,F,B,E (I’ll add these on the map, but they don’t really matter.). When the order was completed in this process the group heard a noise like sliding stone. Next came the sound of heavy footsteps which put everyone on edge, then the group moved into battle stances when the double doors at the end of the hall opened. They could see two massive dwarven constructs of stone carrying bronze hammers.

The duo proceeded to slam the hammers forward into each color of the prismatic wall, shattering it into magical ether. When completed, the dwarves turned, stone feet grating on stone floors, and returned through the double doors then disappeared into alcoves which had thick, stone doors descending from the ceiling to cover them once more.

From here it would be easy to retrace their steps to where they freed Saggarintys from his glass floor prison.

Beyond the massive double doors, which open easily at their touch, stood a stone statue of an elf woman holding a silver ewer which poured a steady stream of water into a 10-foot circular basin. This beautiful fountain had silver highlights in various places, and glistening pearls set into the statue’s eyes. As they looked on, the woman’s head turned, and she asked,

“What does it mean to be good?”

Vogh

Vogh smiled as the dwarves appeared and smashed the prismatic wall into oblivion.  Vogh was going to go after those hammers but the dwarves disappeared into the secret passage they were in before. with the passageway open now for them to continue on, Vogh and her companions moved forward towards the room they found Saggarintys.  She moved to the doors that were closed and opened them knowing no traps would be tripped.  She saw the fountain then and when asked the question Saggarintys had said would be asked she responded with,

Good protects the innocent and punishes evil

At Vogh’s correct answer a secret door opened in the room’s northwest corner. The woman statue spoke once more before turning her head back and becoming ornamental once more.

“Your first drink from my waters will bring great reprieve.”

OOC: Cure Critical Wounds Potion. Only works with the first drink, then mere water after.

Beyond the expertly concealed door a small room opened to a staircase leading up. Ascending the stair the group emerged onto a ledge. A huge cavern sprawled into the darkness, the stalactite covered ceiling rose about 20 feet above where the stood. The bottom of the cavern was nowhere in sight, lost in darkness beyond the best of their vision. Iron spikes driven into the ground on the ledge suggested a rope bridge once spanned the cavern, but is now long gone.

[Private to Bharash: Only Bharash’s vision was good enough to see a ledge across the expanse, on roughly the same level as the one where they currently stood. It disappeared beyond his vision which meant the expanse had to be a minimum of sixty feet away.]

===========================================================
Bharash
———————————————————–
When the group of friends made the ledge before them they each looked out across the empty space.  Bharash could see that there was a ledge on the other side of the expanse and told his friends.

Looks like there is a ledge across the way.  Deacon can you cast the spider climb spell again?  When Deacon said that he couldn’t Bharash wondered what they should do.  He knew that Belie could climb across probably and he could have a rope with him.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh tried to peer across the expanse but couldn’t see the ledge Bharash talked about, so she had to take his word for it.  When Deacon said he didn’t have another spell of spider climb she looked to Belie.

Belie, can you climb over to the other side and attach a rope so that we all can climb over?  Vogh asked.

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
Belie nodded, none to happy about the prospect, but he clamped his teeth down on the magical torch he always kept handy and began to scale across the expanse. The magic of the rogue’s boots enacted and he stuck to the wall as well as a spider.

Picking his way carefully across the wall, inspecting as he went, and trying not to look down, Belie finally made it to the far ledge. Unfortunately for the rogue his light illuminated up the stairs and Belie let out a surprised yelp just as a group of humanoids charged down the stairs and collided with him!

Eight beast things charged down the stairs in unison onto the landing, and helping one another, they shoved the off-guard rogue from the ledge to plumet below.

Thankfully Belie’s bag of tricks was deep. The human fell about ten feet then slowed to fall at a harmless rate thanks to yet another magic item on his person.

The entire group could now see the strange creatures jumping and whooping across the expanse at them. Resembling muscular humanoids with gray leathery skin and sunken white eyes. Digits ended in sharp claws which scraped against the stone as the group shrieked and gibbered at the invaders.

OOC: The human Jarlaxle… 😀

Vogh
———————————————————–
One of my favorite characters for sure!!!

Vogh gasped as she saw the wild things coming down the stairs towards Belie.  She wasn’t able to warn him before they crashed into him and pushed him over the edge.  Vogh saw a moment later that Belie must have had some item that allowed him to feather fall much like herself.  Sighing Vogh turned to Deacon and said, You have a spell that can take care of that threat over there?

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon too gasped at the fall of Belie but was relieved to see the crafty rogue begin to float down to the floor.  Deacon knew it would be a matter of a few minutes before he would be back up on their side having climbed up like the spider he was.

I can cast those black tentacles once again.  It would probably take care of the problem.  Or summon some elementals once more.  Your choice Vogh.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh thought for a moment and then said, the black tentacles should work as well as they did against the group we encountered before.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
After Deacon had cast his spell to summon the black tentacles Vogh watched as half of the beings were wrapped up inside the tentacles.  With 4 still outside the range of the tentacles, Deacon cast another spell and suddenly 2 medium air elementals appeared midway to the far ledge.  After appearing they charged the things and bashed 2 of the things.

While that happened, Vogh sang out giving her allies more power to hit and kill the enemies before them.  Avach, Talin, Bharash, and Belie all pulled their bows and took shots across the expanse.  One by one the enemy fell until all but the ones in the tentacles were dead.  They two soon fell dead as they were squeezed to death from the tentacles they couldn’t escape from.

With everything dead it was time to head over to the other side.  Vogh asked Deacon if he could cast the spider climb again for them all.  With a nod from Deacon and a few arcane words later the companions moved out to the wall and began to move to the other side.  Making sure to have good handholds, the climb took almost all of the spell’s duration as the friends finally made the other side.  Deacon quickly dismissed the tentacles and the friends walked out onto the next ledge.

With only one way to move forward, the group moved up a stairway which brought them to a platform.  Vogh had Belie check for traps just in case.  Belie expertly looked for anything but couldn’t find any sign of a trap so they continued on further.  They made to it another large chamber but before entering Vogh asked Belie once more to check for traps.  With nothing found they pushed into the next chamber and moved along the ledge.  They couldn’t see how big the place was but knew it was very large.  As they began to move forward, they could all feel some type of magic that suppressed all their magic.  After trying several things they found that nothing worked.  This was troubling indeed but there was nothing they could do now.

They finally came to the end of the ledge and even Bharash’s keen eyesight couldn’t see the other side.  Vogh asked Belie since he was the best climber if he could climb the wall and place pitons and rope so they could all get across the expanse to hopefully another side.

The group realized that everything stored inside any form of magical container was inaccessible to them while inside the range of the anti-magic field. Retracing their steps along the wide outcropping to the worked stone tunnel, they found the edge of the barrier and retrieved all their rope, pittons, hammers and other tools needed for climbing the gap with mundane means since their magic was suppressed.

Unfortunately the group also started hearing chattering, then the sound of claws on stone from down the long hallway where they defeated the strange creatures…

Vogh

Unsure of what was coming from the direction they just came for, the group stayed within the area they could use magic and fanned out ready to take out what was coming.  Vogh began to sing her song.  The frontline all had their blades out and ready and the next row had their bows out.

To the group’s frustration, the same monsters they had just slain minutes before look none-the-worse-for-wear and were charging up the stairs after them. Vogh
———————————————————–
After finishing off the banebrutes once more Vogh had noticed that their flesh began to heal somewhat so she recommended to the others that they burn the bodies completely so they couldn’t return once more.
Deacon steps forward and says, I can cast a web on them that will burn and burn the bodies since I don’t have any fire spells at my disposal.  Vogh readily agreed and after Deacon cast his spell, Vogh lit the webbing on fire with her everburning torch.
With the bodies charred and burnt now, Belie begins again with the pitons and making a path across the antimagic cavern and the great expanse before them.  The rope was tied and Belie set off.  As he got half-way across the distance the group looked back to hear more grunts and scrapes, noticing the banebrutes beginning to stand, their skin and hurts seemingly healed once more.
Vogh just couldn’t believe her eyes.  The banebrutes weren’t dead and were coming back to life once more. Now fully inside the antimagic area, her music would not work so she looked to Bharash, Kal and Avach.  Defend us while we make it across.
Bharash with the aid of Kal and Avach finally defeat the banebrutes once more and this time they brush the things from the ledge to fall to the ground.
Belie finally made it over to the other ledge, but since he saw some more of the banebrutes there as well he decided to place the pitons about 20ft above them so him and his companions could drop down onto the brutes.  Once he was finished Belie returned and Bharash went to the other side and dropped down onto the things wreaking havoc with his blades.  Bharash backed up to the wall while the banebrutes fanned out in front of him to attack.  Their attacks were nothing against his armor and defenses so he held the line until the others made it over.  Once again after some time Bharash was able to kill off the last of the banebrutes.  He pushed all the bodies over the ledge as he had done the others.
Wondering if they would ever leave the antimagic area Vogh and the others kept moving forward.  After about 100ft Vogh could feel her power once more, same with Julia and Deacon and Talin.  The group then made it to a small room which is filled with loose rocks, bones, and other debris, including the remnants of many broken tools.  Julia cast her detect magic to see if any of it was magical which revealed that it was all mundane.
A large iron vat lies overturned and dented here. Around it, you see broken tools, smashed bits of wood, the torn remnants of what were probably burlap bags, and piles of rock and dust. Everything lies in a shambles, as if some wild beast tore it apart.  After a suggestion from Vogh, everyone tossed the stuff into the hall to aid them hearing if anything was following them.  Continuing to move now, the group came to some doors.  Some were open and some sealed, having chosen not to open sealed doors they all moved to one of the open ones.  Inside Vogh saw 5 squat humanoids of bronze, much like the ones near the water room they had been, their heads and limbs clearly jointed and hinged, rest unmoving on the haunches near the western wall.  Heading into the room, the constructs stood at attention seemingly waiting for something.  Vogh decided that since nothing happened with them that they would move on.
They came upon a huge cavern which rises up into the darkness – looking up she couldn’t see the ceiling.  The floor is at least 30ft below the ledge near the entrance.  A stone staircase goes down to the cavern floor, and another goes up to a 10-foot-wide landing 60ft to the west and 60ft up from this ledge.  The staircase continues up from the landing, but headed south.  The staircases appear to have been hewn from rock formations that perhaps once existed in this huge cave.  The group pushes on up the stairs with Belie checking for traps.  The steps continue south and up 40ft to another landing, and then east and up another 40ft to a ledge.  There is also a bubbling, festering pool of thick, purplish liquid far down.  The eastern end of the cave seemed to be worked and finished stone with a staircase in the middle which heads up to the west.  Vogh could also see a small door that led to the south.  Deciding to head up the staircase Vogh found that the room was 50ft by 30ft with a 40ft ceiling.  Before her she saw  a huge metallic statue which pretty much dominated the whole of the chamber.  Metal blades and terrible serrated plates seemed to have been fashioned to form the foreboding image of a tall, demonic humanoid.  Vogh also noticed a pathway to the north and one to the south.  She also felt a chill and the feel of charged energy about the room.  Vogh decided to see what was down to the south first.
A dull bluish glow pervades here. This chamber forms the bottom of a circular shaft that rises up higher than you can see. At various points along the shaft, ledges lined with doors punctuate its impressive height. Each door is a silvery-blue color. Occasionally at these ledges, thin, arched bridges lead from one side of the shaft to the other. The walls are worked gray stone. There are no visible ways of ascending the shaft or reaching those balconies.  On the bottom level, across the smooth stone floor, are six of the aforementioned silver-blue doors. Each appears tightly sealed except for the one in the southeast of the room. It stands slightly ajar.
The group moved towards the ajar door once Belie had made sure the area wasn’t trapped.  Inside the room they found that the 30ft chamber lied empty with a bronze platform about 6ft long by 2ft wide floats about 3ft above the floor with nothing on it.  They also found another closed door in the southwest.
Skirting the table the group moved to the other door where once again Belie checked for traps and finding that there weren’t any nor was the door locked.  As Belie opened the door he saw that the room was mainly empty besides a pair of broken, black-shafted arrows, a sundered full helm covered in long-dried black blood, and a number of blobs of dried clay, none of which was magical, she did find that there was great power throughout the whole place though and she tasted a sickly evil tingly magical electricity.  Deacon and Julia both looked at each other at that proclamation.
Having used quite a bit of their magical spells to get to this point the group decided to rest.  They closed the door and took up watch for the night.  The next morning they went back to the main room looking up into the spire.  Deacon once again cast his communal spider climb and up they went into the darkness.
As the group makes it up almost 40 feet Vogh senses the presence of another being well above them, right at the edge of her mental abilities. She can feel the evil from the demon, a Vrock. Vogh senses her mind tickle as her mental connection brushes against its intelligent mind (INT 16). To turn her stomach a bit more, she “hears” a telepathic response come back into her mind, “The Lord of the Banewarrens greets you! And I’m HUNGRY!!!” right before an electrical explosion encompasses the entire group.
Belie says, “What from the nine hells?!”
Vogh responds, “There is a Vrock which is a demon about 100ft above us. We must hurry up there. They can fly as well.  We should get moving to make the next level.”  As they get closer Vogh can sense it begin to swoop down towards them.  It comes into sight and it resembled a cross between an oversized human and a huge vulture. It had strong, sinewy limbs covered in black feathers. An unnaturally long neck was topped with a vulture head then from its back sprouted giant wings.  The strange creatures’ body was covered in pieces of cobbled together armor. Some of which seemed to have been modified to fit the abnormal anatomy.  In one of its viciously taloned claws it held an oversized Glaive-Guisarme which had multiple sharp spikes along its length and the blade.  The opposite claw held a large bastard sword similarly styled with black spikes and a pommel which resembled a human skull. Or might have actually been a skull…
When Bharash saw the thing he said, “I want to cook that thing for breakfast!”
Just then is let out an otherworldly cackle that sounded as that of a mad man.  It then swooped down to attack.  The attack wasn’t conventional as it released a cloud of spore which fell over the group.  Disgusting green vines begin to grow on four of the companions’ skin. The vines did nothing to impede them but were painful and caused damage.  Vogh implored the others to continue to find a ledge.  Thankfully, one appeared and they all climbed up on top of it.
Now on top of the small outcropping the Vrock spoke, “You look tasty, mortals!”  It screeched from a bird’s beak but with a human voice.  It then swooped down to swipe with its blades at Avach.  The nasty Glaive cut Avach as the demon flew by.  Avach could immediately feel the evilness of the thing as it sapped his strength and blood began to flow down his arm.  Still tied together they tried the first door which didn’t open and so they moved to the next which was unlocked and so they opened and went in.
The chamber stunk like feces and in the southwest corner, something had built a large nest of bones, cloth, and still stranger things.  As they entered and shut the door, the Vrock let out an ear piercing screech.  The Vrock thought to stun the group, but Vogh’s banner which made them immune countered the effect of the screech.  The vines continued to grow about the 4 companions causing more damage.  Belie cries out, “Damn the demon!  What are these things”?  Julia looks over everyone and heals them with a cleansing wave of healing energy.  While Julia healed everyone, Deacon cast his arcane lock on the door making it harder to enter.  Seconds later the door shutters under a powerful impact but doesn’t budge.
Belie, having looked about the room spots another door and calls out to the others.  Vogh, says, “Is it trapped”?  After a few moments, Belie finds a trap on the door, “sure is let me try and disarm it”.  Another few moments and Belie turns with a smirk on his face, “it is disarmed” and he opens the door without incident.  “Wait, let me see, there seems to be a trap on the floor as well”.  Vogh looked into the room and saw that the room was empty with another door in the northwest corner.
A moment later, the group hears claws land on the stone behind them, and the great beast appears from thin air inside the room they just left and locked
“Thought you could lock me out of my own nest? Now your bones will be added to the pile!”  Julia turned as she heard the Vrock and cast a communal protection from evil to bolster her and her friends.  Deacon asks, “How did he get in here?  Either a dimension door or teleport?  We won’t be able to hold him unless we lock him down”!  Talin begins to sing a satire which he hasn’t used since joining up with Vogh.  The tone and song undermines the confidence of enemies who hear it.  The other companions waited to see if Belie could find if the room was clear to move in.  A moment later Belie called out, “It is trapped be careful of the pressure plate, it is disarmed but my tools are keeping it from activating!”
Vogh begins to sing, filling the ears of her friends with the power of her song.  Julia then casts a dimensional anchor on the demon hoping to anchor it so it couldn’t get away so easily.  The spell took but the Vrock didn’t care and so attacked with his blades.  Avach managed to dodge the serrated sword, but Kal took a hit from the glaive.  Black tentacles sprang up all about the Vrock then, grabbing at it and holding it in place for a sec.  The Vrock pushed through the tentacles and made it free but the difficult terrain made it so he couldn’t attack Vogh and her companions.  Belie opens the other door and quickly finds another trap and disarms it before he and Bharash moved in.  Once everyone made it through the door Deacon once more cast arcane lock on the door.
The next room also had another door which Belie found was magically trapped.  Deacon tried to dispel it but failed to do so.  Belie decided to try and disarm the magical trap then, and with a bit of luck he finally says, “Don’t touch this with your bare hands. Something will happen, I just don’t know what. I think I’ve got the trigger blocked, but I don’t want to take any chances.”  With that the rogue pushes open the door and steps inside the room.
This room has an old, red carpet on the floor. Upon it sits a glass pedestal surrounded by four silver candlesticks holding white candles. Draped over the top of the pedestal is a red cloth, embroidered with gold threads. On the cloth sits an ivory box about 2 feet long and 1 foot wide and tall.  It is covered in skulls, leering demonic visages, and symbols of vileness and evil.
Vogh doesn’t move forward just yet and instead pulls out her blade. In their minds she says, “We need to eliminate that demon”. She then casts haste on the group.  The group hears another powerful slam, but the door holds.  “What’s to stop it teleporting into here?” The Kal asked with trepidation as he kept his back against the wall and looking side to side, waiting for the thing to appear any moment.  Julia responded back, “I have blocked his ability to do so”.
Vogh then sang once more as does Talin and the competing notes filled the room.  Deacon opened the door and Bharash charged the Vrock.  The larger Vrock used its reach to strike out and hit Bharash as he charged hurting him with the evil sword.  Bharash took the hit and unleashed 2 strikes of his own.  One of his attacks was especially effective having scored a critical strike but not enough to fell the Vrock.  Kal then charged in and with his holy blade swiped twice at the Vrock also scoring a critical attack.  Still the Vrock stood though with blood dripping from 4 wounds.  Avach stepped up behind Kal to aid him with his defense.
Unfortunately a flurry of blows came back at them. Kal was fortunate enough to raise his shield in time to smash the things beak as it snapped forward to bite at him. A loud screech of metal was matched by the thing’s furious bird like scream. Bharash worked his swords brilliantly to slap away one taloned foot and an attack from one of its vicious weapons.  Kalerecent was less fortunate.  With his shield raised high, the demon slashed at him below the waist with one sharp talon, then caught the man’s side with one of the oily black swords serrations.
Bharash and Kal move forward 5ft and unleash their full attacks on the Vrock.  Their attacks were strong and finished off the Vrock.  Bharash carefully pulled the two weapons from the Vrock and placed them in his pack for later.
With the Vrock now dead Vogh moves to the nest and while carefully going through it she found a magical wand and some other valuable items.

Moving back to the table with the candles Vogh says, “now that looks ominous doesn’t it”?  Avach looked at the chest and had to avert his eyes, “That is a powerful artifact, each of the candles are magical as well”.  Since the candles didn’t radiate magic, Vogh picked one up.  Since nothing happened she picked the rest of them up and put them in her pack.

———————————————————–
“Nothing is abnormal or secretive around or in the stand”. Belie said as he looked for traps. Since nothing else seemed to stick out with the room they decided to move back to the main chamber and check the other doors. One door was already ajar but was clearly a Sealed Vault door at one point. It sits undamaged but clearly the seal has been broken. The open door on this level gives access to a short, wide hall that leads into a larger room. A hulking iron statue of an armored man, standing twice the height of a normal man, seems to protect the room.

“Something either got in or got out, keep a look out everyone. Want to check for traps Belie before we enter”? Belie raises eyebrow, “You mean other than the gigantic, towering thing that looks like it could squish us? Other than THAT trap”?

“We have seen many statues throughout the Banewarrens why should this be different”? Vogh states plainly. Bharash enters the room with his blades in his hands and as soon as Bharash enters the huge, hulking statue draws out two massive blades. “Looks like he wants to fight”, Bharash jumped to the ready. It didn’t charge but stood there not moving.

“It is radiating magic”! Avach says. “Since it isn’t attacking we can assume it is here to defend someone from entering. I think we should just bypass this area”.

Deacon says, “Maybe it is only guarding one of the halls”. Belie quips back, “Maybe. You want to go first and pick”? Deacon shook his head but Bharash did move to advance to the left. Everyone saw that the golems head turned towards Bharash but still didn’t move. So Bharash moved to the right this time and the head swiveled the other way to follow Bharash. Bharash decided to move forward down the hall and since the golem didn’t move he moved a bit further.

Bharash could see the walls that run the length of this hall are covered with shields of all sizes. A thick, fibrous carpet of woven strips lines the floor. On the eastern wall is a bold but slightly faded and chipped painting of a warrior with a shield and sword, a blazing sun symbol on his tabard.

Since the golem didn’t move, everyone else headed down after Bharash. 3 more doors could be seen here none of which were open.

I think I will have Avach spam his detect magic. He can find magical traps while BElie checks for mechanical on the first door

“North door isn’t even locked, let alone trapped. Both doors to the right/south are locked and magically trapped even.” Belie stated.

Avach commented as well, “I can confirm there is indeed magic on these two doors, but nothing else appears to be in the main room”

Julia casts dispel magic on the first door, and Avach confirms the magic is suppressed.

Belie then moved to unlock the door, and as he unlocks it he notices that it doesn’t open still. “Must be some kind of trigger or something.”

Vogh noticed something about both doors then, both doors on the wall look identical, with keyholes in their direct center. Bass reliefs of swords cover the metallic doors.

Julia tries to dispel the next door, but as she does the entire ground shakes with tremendous force. Once. Then again… Another bone vibrating thud follows.

Julia tries again… and again fails to dispel the magic on the door.

Slam… Slam… the ground is shaking so much that the companions had to brace themselves or fall down.

Bharash had been caught off guard and stumbled a bit, but managed to get back up.

Julia tried one more time to dispel the magic and after the spell hit Avach confirmed it had suppressed the magic.

Belie tries to unlock it and feels like the lock is undone, but the door simply will not open.

Kal calls out as he had been watching for the golem, “We have a big problem, the hall is growing dark and heading this way”. Everyone could feel the bone jarring shakes are getting worse as well.

Vogh reaches out with her senses but can detect no intelligence, it has to be the golem. As the darkness approached they decided to head through the third door except Talin. A skeleton, long dead and darkened with age, lies on the floor the pile of bones is in plate armor next to a longsword and a shield.

As Talin took watch he saw the darkness approach so he went inside the door and Deacon cast Arcane Lock on it as he did others. Vogh quickly checked down the hall to see if it was heading the other way. At the same time Avach checked with his detect magic to see if any of the items were magical. “The longsword, full plate armor and spiny shield are all magical” Avach said. Quickly Vogh picked up the items and put them in her pack. Vogh then said, “The darkness is coming this way now. We appear to be in a game of cat and mouse”.

Bharash calls for the Deacon to open the door and tells the others to head through. Bharash stays to make sure the golem comes towards him. As he’s looking around, he cannot help but let his eyes wander of the magical loot. He notices among the crushed remains a gold ring with an emerald, two large platinum keys, and a nearly completely rotted leather satchel with gold poking out of the aged tears. He grabs the stuff quickly while Avach checks the magic of the door. “Looks like the magic is back”!

Vogh not knowing what to do says, “Unless someone has dispel magic spells we can’t get in it seems”.

Deacon states, “I can cast that spell 2 more times if needed. Perhaps I should dispel the darkness and then we rest somewhere else? We could try to rest since the thing has clearly stopped chasing us”.

Though, after a few moments, the shaking starts again, and the hallway starts to disappear into darkness. “Let’s run, when it gets close we make a break for outside”. Just before running though they hear it going the other direction already. Deacon says, “I can create a couple of pits to slow it down so we can get out”.

With the aid of the pits they were able to head out the main door this time. Thinking that the golem wouldn’t follow they start to rest, but Bharash once more sees the thing come outside the room. Deacon with a bit of magic left summoned some Lantern Archons to defeat the foe. Their ability to bypass damage reduction would come in handy with the golem. It took some time but they were finally able to defeat the golem. Rest was much needed now so they rested on the platform while keeping watch. After 8 hours they got something to eat and then pushed on to the 2 magical doors. After figuring out how to get in the doors they see that the room is a huge room, and eight longswords float in the air point up. Each is bathed in a reddish glow and has a gold hilt with a large emerald set into the pommel. Deacon at the request of Vogh summons some earth elementals to commands them to enter and grab the swords one at a time. After a few of his summons had taken damage one of them grabs one of the swords and the rest of the images disappeared. Deacon then commands the elemental to put the blade in Bharash’s pack.

Once the level was finished the once more move up the middle chamber with Deacon’s spider climb spell. When they get to a level which has doors they move to check this first door for magic and traps. Finally finding one of the rooms open and nonmagical Belie checks down the empty hallway. With no traps he keeps moving with everyone not far behind. He comes to a corner and peeks around it. He finds a door ahead which seems simple and unlocked. Since nothing has happened Vogh says to the others, “There has to be something here. Be prepared. Julia can you cast that prayer again? Deacon can you cast the protection from evil”? Talin and Vogh sing their songs and Belie opens the door.

As they enter they suddenly no longer appear to stand within the Banewarrens. Now you see a beautiful starry sky above you. The stars twinkle and shine brighter than any stars you have ever seen, and all of them appear blue. The ground beneath you is blue stone, cut extremely smooth. The horizon looks very close—as though you stand atop a small, strange plateau or the roof of a large, odd-shaped building, the edge of which appears to be star shaped. The whole surface must be no larger than 80 feet across. In the middle of this structure you stand upon is set a smaller, reflective star of blue stone with silver edges. It burns with an azure fire, although you feel no heat.

Vogh tells the people at the stars to go there and this is the end result. “We need to stay alert but also figure out where we are”. “Looks like the middle of nowhere” Belie commented. Looking over the edge of the star it appeared they were floating on this platform in a formless void.

Avach still with his detect magic going says, The central star has powerful magic”. He studies it to learn without touching. “I think we should all just jump on the fire at the same time”. So they do after a small discussion.

As they do a tiny form leaps out of the flame and begins to grow to its full height while cackling. In a manner of a few blinks of our eyes, the tiny form grows to that of a blue dragon which sits on the edge of the star point wall and looks at the group hungrily. “Well hello my pretties… It’s been oh so long since I’ve had visitors…”

Vogh answered, “Greetings to you as well. We are blessed to be in the presence of such majesty as yourself oh Grand Blue Wyrm”.

The blue turns her head to regard the group, eyeing each of them, then returning her gaze to Vogh. “Indeed you are…”

Vogh said as she stepped forward a step, “This is quite the realm you have made as your home Oh Grand Blue. My name is Vogh and these are my companions. What may I call you, my grace”?

The dragon responded, “Lord Darkstar, underling. And what might you have brought me for gracing my presence…”

Vogh pulls out some of the recent things they have found,…. baubles that is.. “We have found some valuables for you Lord Darkstar. We know that there is more and if you could let us get them we can bring them to you as well”.

“Oh? You wish to leave so soon…?”

“Not before getting to know what things you like. We would like to make sure you have shiny things you will like to add to your hoard oh great lord Darkstar”.

“Well the first thing I wish to have is a meal…” Red eyes glint hungrily.

“A meal? That is an excellent idea! We would be pleased to order one up”. Vogh uses her new magic item to conjure up food in front of her.

The blue’s eyes widen as she sees the effect performed and regards the food, then the magic item while licking her scaly lips.

“Enough food to feed 15 people. There is meat and breads and fruits. Many things that taste wonderful and also fresh water”.

“That’s quite a bobble you have there… I would rather enjoy adding that to my collection…”

The dragon then let out a line of electricity forcing everyone to try and dodge the blast. Everyone but Bharash, Avach, and Belie were able to get out of the way of the blast and get the full brunt of it.

“OUCH!!!!!” The rogue’s teeth chatter and his hair stands on end as he fights through the electrical blast’s effect

Deacon quickly casts haste on everyone. Belie drops back 5ft and follow suite with his bow, since he’s hurt. Julie moved 5ft and channeled energy into her and her friends healing them of some of the damage. Vogh sings as she pulls her bow out and takes a shot hitting the dragon for a minor amount of damage. Bharash and Kal charge the dragon wounding it for quite a bit more damage. Talin sings his satire and draws his bow and shoots as well just nicking the dragon with an arrow.

The great drake yells out in pain then drops backward off its perch to plummet below then fly out to their left, 150 feet. Belie fired off 2 more shots hitting for minor damage. Not having much other way to damage the dragon, Deacon summoned more lantern archons and they attacked the dragon.

Vogh moves up and fires off 2 arrows ineffectively. Bharash ran to Belie and healed him with his healing belt. Avach fires again to no effect.

Kal curses the dragon, “You should have eaten with us. Now you will perish for your insolence, dragon of no consequence” Talin takes aim and his arrows take the dragon down. As she died we all instantly appear back in the room again. After a few minutes and looking over each other, Vogh and the others look around for anything besides the pendant, they will take it if they can.

The chamber is practically empty. The walls are covered completely in stark blue steel plates, shined almost to a mirror finish. Floating above the middle of the floor hangs a chain with a simple hexagonal pendant made of sapphires arranged in a starburst pattern. It appears quite for now.

Vogh grabs it and places it in a backpack. With nothing else around they head out to the main chamber once more and Deacon casts his spider climb and they once more ascend the structure passing other ledges with nothing of interest except random doors which are obviously sealed beyond your capability.

Three separate ledges, two with doors and one with a wide opening, comprise this level. They are joined by a cross-shaped bridge across the middle of the shaft. The bridge itself is slightly arched, making the middle about 5 feet higher than the ends. The 10-foot-wide bridge is littered with miscellaneous bits of armor and equipment—rope, packs, hooks, tools, spikes, and so on.

Staying away from the edges of the walkway they begin to move across pushing stuff off that they don’t find useful. Although some worthwhile items lie amid the gear on the bridge, nothing magical or even masterwork can be found. A close examination of the equipment reveals not only a bad stench but tufts of long, animal-like hair and even a few bloodstains.

“Stuff looks like some hairy thing was using the items. Poor things. Maybe some of those pactlords,” Bharash says with a laugh after. As they near the middle a door opens and some gray ogres step out with huge longspears.

Belie sees no reason to get closer, she he shoots. One arrows skips off the cobbled together armor of the ogre and the second misses terribly. Just then more appear as the two move to the side and chuck spears at Bharash and Belie, both spear miss though.

Two more exit the door, each holding huge greataxes, the second two look female.

Talin will shoot and move back. Vogh sings and fires a shot, both hers and Talin’s arrows hit for minimal damage. Julia waits till the ogres get closer before she casts prayer. Avach fires his bow twice more inflicting pain on one of the ogres.

Ripping a huge sword from its back the injured ogre charges with a roar and the others follow suite. Additionally, two more ogres step out from the doorway, one visibly smaller than the others.

Bharash had been waiting for a charge and as the ogre closes Bharash splits him ballz to bone, finishing the injured creature off. Talin shot and then sang his satire. Vogh shot three accurate arrows, each finding flesh and causing pain. Bharash now his turn goes on full defense for the oncoming onslaught.

The big brute and the seeming child move around and chuck spears along with the others not in melee. Kal gets hit twice by two massive blows, one from a spear larger than him, and one greataxe blast Kal, adding his own blood to the mixture on the floor.

Kal drops back to heal himself and his wounds quickly begin to close. After a few rounds of exchange and a few more gray ogres die, two of them rush Bharash to knock him from the ledge. As he gets pushed over the ledge, Deacon enacted his spell he had been holding and a large spider web catches Bharash fully as it adheres to the 90 degree angle of the 2 ledges. Kal now in melee range of the ogres goes on full defense as well. His companions behind him were doing a great job picking off the other ogres in the back. Just then Belie did an amazing somersault move between the two ogres that bull rushed Bharash, ending up on the other side. Belie then struck out with his blades and scored a critical hit on one of the ogres as the rapier nearly stabs Kalerecent as the point enters and the exits the front of the brute’s body. After some back and forth with the remaining ogres, Belie finishes the last one off with a feint and stab to the kidneys.

Kal then finally moves over to aid Bharash out of the webbing while Belie checks out the corpses for anything valuable. While looking over the bodies they toss the remaining corpses over the ledge along with all the other junk.

Seeing that there are 2 doors open, the group finishes clearing the ledges and heads to a door that looks to have been forced open. Within the room you see a strange five-faceted stone pyramid about 4 feet tall. A loop of iron about a foot across is set into each of the four sides (but not the bottom) of the small structure. Dark brown stains cover the floor around it, and the place smells foul. Seeing another door in the room Vogh asks Belie to check it for traps. “Don’t touch the pyramid yet, we will check the other rooms out first”. After the door was disarmed Vogh saw that the door was a vault door. “Well, I guess this is a dead end. We still aren’t opening sealed doors. Let’s head to the generator room now”. Once there Vogh asked, “Belie go check the stuff out quick. I have to think there is something valuable if others were here before”.

With only 1 room left they headed there and saw that this chamber is filled with chains that hang down from the ceiling. Most are connected to the ceiling on just one end, but others drape down in the center with both ends attached to the ceiling. The links of the chains look crude in their manufacture—as if someone made them by taking metal objects, tearing them to bits, and weaving the pieces into chains. That would explain why these chains are covered in sharp edges and jagged corners. A pit runs across the room, measuring about 60 feet across. A bridge made of chains spans the gap.

Advancing a bit into the room we see a humanoid figure—tall, dark, and heavily shadowed— stands in the middle of it. He is wrapped from head to foot in chains, but he is not bound. They seem more like flesh than bonds. Wickedly barbed chains adorn this lean figure, and gaps in the bindings reveal deathly pale flesh etched with jagged scars. After maneuvering all about the cavern and having fallen more than once the group finishes off the chain devil with a masterful strike from Belie. After it is dead Deacon says, “These devils tend to have some regeneration so we need to make sure to burn the body”, before doing so Deacon will look at the body and see if there is anything magical on him. Deacon sees that there is a green iron bracer on the devil’s right wrist that glows magic. After confirmation from Kal that it is evil they lob off the arm and let the bracer slide into a sack. Bharash said, “I got this, I will just do all his limbs, damn thing hurt me good”. With the limbs cut off they burned the body and then left the room after checking it carefully for anything else and headed to the main area with the ledges. Deacon said, “We should rest again. I am low on my spells”.

After a good rest they move up once more after Deacon cast his spider climb spell. It seemed that the shaft ended, with a ledge running around to five doors. One of them hangs half open, apparently damaged. Here and there, we could see scorch marks and smashed stones, as if a great battle had taken place here. A broken sword hilt lies on the ledge near its south end. In the ceiling, a hole 20 feet across leads up to an even higher level. After checking out the sword hilt, Avach can tell it is magical and Kal confirms it isn’t evil. Vogh will pick up the blade and look at it further. It actually felt pleasantly warm to the touch. She can practically feel goodness warming her from the broken blade. With her bardic knowledge she can tell that this was used in the battle against the Dread One, although forgotten to history as so many things have been. Vogh’s extensive study of history was far deeper than most. Every person who battled this horrible force of evil was of superior power, and the items they carried were largely lost in the final battle. She couldn’t know who this blade belonged to, but it was certainly a piece of history.

The doors leading from main chamber barely hangs on their hinges, except for the south-facing door in the southwestern corner. The rest of the doors are also blackened and scorched. The stone walls within bear similar marks— some are even blistered and melted in spots, as if burned by incredible heat or acid, or both. The room feels cold now, though, and the air almost seems to vibrate.

“This doesn’t look good guys I am not sure we can enter there without getting seriously hurt. Perhaps we should just head up more”? Vogh comments. Vogh looked to the other door which was open. “Deacon can you summon something and let it go in to see if something is there”?

“I could I suppose if you are looking for effects”, Deacon said and then summoned a dog, pushing to go towards the door. When it reached the door the dog would tucked its tail between its legs, bowed it’s ears and cowered, looking back at Deacon with horrible fear in its eyes. The canine even began walking backward away from the door. Deacon says, “good boy now check the other door”, as he points to it.

The dog is still fearful, but more of a heckles raised with a low growl than the absolute terror of the other room. “Okay seems like the room doesn’t hurt the dog so we can at least go inside”. Vogh said. As Kal and Julie walked in they can simply FEEL the powerful evil that tainted this room. “This room is pure evil, let’s not play around too much in here”! Bharash took a look in the room that scared the dog. He saw that the walls were reddish-black, stained by some unknown cataclysm. A cold presence here resembles nothing he had ever felt before. It claws at his soul and numbed his whole body. Sprawled against the curved wall opposite the door lies a tatter of black rags.

Not wanting to touch anything in there Deacon summoned earth elementals again and pushed them into the room. As Deacon pushed them to move the rags to see if anything was there 12 wraiths appeared, screaming in fury and sobbing in sorrow. 4 of the closest wraiths lashed out with claws to attack the elementals getting minor hits on them. Vogh up next did her fire dance hoping that the fire would help more than her inspire courage. At the call that there were undead, Julia comes to the door and channels positive energy into the room, “Be GONE!!!!” Her channel outright destroys 3 of them and damages the others.

The elementals attack and one hits for with his fiery fists killing another. The remaining elementals miss. The wraiths strike back hitting the elementals causing unknown damage. They strike at Bharash but miss him. Bharash strikes back and destroys the one that tried to hit him. Kal charges forward with his holy blade and kills another. Lastly, Julia releases another channel and kills the rest of the wraiths.

Deacon will have the elemental picks up the rags this time and as he does the first thing that drops out is a short, metal rod topped with a beautifully crafted dragon’s head as it clatters against the floor with a melodious ting-ting. Next, a pair of diamond rings clank to the floor the noise they make belies weight beyond the looks. The gems of each are large and beautiful, evoking high value. Finally, a silver spear tip clangs to the floor. Deacon makes a motion to have the rags tossed to the corner then makes the motion to pick stuff up and come back to him.

Avach looked to see which items were magical and Kal if they were evil and much to everyone’s surprise, both the rod and spear tip are not evil. The rod is of an extreme magic power. The diamond rings seem to be cursed. The elemental places the earrings in the sack while Vogh looks at the rod… the dragon head looks cool and she will try to see if it brings any knowledge to her but currently nothing comes to her.

The next room has a cold tension in the air that grows even stronger inside. Broken bits of equipment and armor lie on the floor, rusted and decayed. A skeleton juts out of the south wall, as if hurled into the wall and imbedded there. Broken stones lie at its feet. Black bloodstains mar the floor near the door.

Vogh’s study of the ancient battle reminded her of one hero. “The skeleton was likely a once great fighter named Zachary Hedron. After the battle, his surviving friends took his belongings with them to give to his family. Others who fell were taken to be raised, but the spell that slew Zachary ensured his permanent death”. Belie checks for traps on the next door and finds some and disarms them.

Opening the door he finds that this room pulses with swirling, violet energy. Deacon looks over the energy and says, “it is an insanely powerful spell causing it, I say we close the door and not mess with it. The spell in that room is too powerful for me”.

The only place to go now is through the hole in the ceiling at the very top of the shaft. Moving up inside thanks to spider climb once more, they find that this 20-foot-wide circular hole is surrounded by a black iron railing about 3 feet high. They climb the railing to be on solid ground again. There is a platform to the left which is a 20-foot square piece of iron and bears the image of a dark skull emblazoned on its surface. It seemed like some strange mechanical device which has long been broken and/or abandoned and the ceiling goes up at least 100 feet and ends in solid stone. There is one door which is not trapped or lock as Belie pointed out.

Along the eastern wall of this room sits a long, low table with six silk-cushioned chairs in front of it. On the table, before each chair, rests a silver helmet. A red cord of twined copper threads connects to each helm and to a device that hangs from the ceiling. The chandelier like device is bejeweled with diamonds and rubies set into a silver mesh. The mesh wraps around a hollow glass core that is shaped like an upright cylinder about a foot tall. Hanging on the wall near the table is a framed picture depicting a 20-foot-tall metal statue.

Bharash leads the way with weapons out as he enters the room. With nothing happening to Bharash, everyone else enters the room. The contraption is looked over and tested to find that it commands the construct that is in a mirror displayed above. As Vogh slides the helm over her head, after just a moment of queasy transition, she can now see a large, stone walled chamber with two gigantic doors that open out, away from her. Her mind begins to fill with some information… she knows she can control an arm… a right arm…. she knows she could SLAM something … and she feels big…

Everyone else in the room can see the hollow glass core wrapped in the mesh of diamonds, rubies and silver begin to pulse and glow. Vogh then imagines moving her arm, she knows her physical body isn’t moving, but she can feel the arm moving, as though she’s willing her arm to move, but it’s not actually moving. Everyone notices the right arm in the “picture” begins to move.

Vogh, You are moving the right arm of the construct we saw on the picture. Talin says to Vogh. “This is interesting someone take a helm and sit down. I think we can move this construct for something I don’t know what yet. She then describes what she sees to them. With everyone but 2 people taking a seat Deacon decides to arcane lock the door in case something comes.

Upon donning each helm, the functionality of the appendage keyed to that helm floods the mind of the wearer. “Guys.. I’m the head…” Belie says in an echoing voice which sounds metallic to Deacon and Julie, but sounds like it was spoken clearly into the ears of each helm wearer. “I can move this thing… but the legs can move it too… And I’ve got a weapon!”

On the screen and in the vision of each helm wearer (they see the entire construct as though they were behind and above it ) a blast of fire erupts from the alien head and scorches the metallic doors in front of the huge construct. The entire group can hear the roar of the fire like it’s on the other side of the very thick stone wall in front of them.

Next Avach explains “I’m … the … chest…I think I can spew out poison gas, and I can spray acid…?” “Vogh, you said you can slam? I can’t… but I can grab… I can grapple things… but… I can also throw spears… 21 spears…” Talin said. Kalerecent and Bharash can each control a leg, and with both of them operating the doomwalker can move much faster than normal. 50 feet. It can also run!

Vogh tries to push open the doors, This long hallway is almost 100 feet wide and tall. From the bare earth floor here, fungi grows as in a thick forest, including mushrooms, puffballs, and other growths, including prodigious amounts of a strange purplish-blue fungus. The Path is illuminated by some mysterious ambient light with a slightly reddish hue. Ahead, the Path continues as far as you can see—at least a quarter mile, probably more. The doors swing open. They are impossibly large and thick and they head inside the long corridor.

After walking forward a little they see a shelf 50 feet from the floor, 30 feet wide, and 20 feet deep hosts a number of large, snaky reptilian forms with wings. As they move closer the creatures, wyverns, atop the shelf are agitated and begin to stir. Moving even closer they are even more irritated and all raising up and moving around atop the shelf, a couple open their wings like they might take flight. Moving closer again the things take flight and as they near Belie breathes a cone of fire 100 feet long that inflicts fire damage. After a short battle in which the wyverns can’t inflict any damage they kill them off and move on again down the corridor. At the end of the long Path, the fungi disappear and a small stone building, 30 feet across and 20 feet tall, rises up from the floor. It sits a little to the left of the center of this mammoth corridor. The walls are straight and finished with masonry-cut blocks—this is no natural cave. Above the building and to the right floats a large charcoal-black, egg-shaped object. The lusterless and dead-looking egg floats on its end. It measures about 40 feet in height and half that in width at its broad base. Carved into this huge egg is what appears to be a stern, angelic figure with two pairs of wings and a sword.

Vogh having traded out of the helmet so Julia can play speaks to them all and tells them to advance…. A large pool of murky water crosses most of the corridor’s width here. It looks about 30 feet to the far shore. Vogh instructs them to run and jump. As they run and spring, they don’t quite make the leap and as they land in the water they are able to grab for the other side and pull themselves out. They continue slowly to the building.

Appearing out of thin air in front of the doomwalker, visible to the controllers and those watching the screen, a HUGE red dragon that looks nothing like those the group had seen depicted before. Its red scales were spiked and ridged and its horns looked more devilish than draconic atop its neck in a saddle road a bugbear. The duo was looking away from the doomwalker and hovered about 50 feet in the air, 50 feet below the ceiling. The dragon’s powerful wings flapped and moved a ton of air, but the wind was nothing to the several thousand pound war machine.

Vogh suddenly could sense three others entered the room beyond theirs. Vogh calls for everyone but Belie and Avach to come out as they had visitors. “Belie and Avach see what you can do about that dragon”. “You… you want us to attack it…?” Belie asked. “No delay it, wait for it to attack you, but move away from the water”.

With that Vogh begins her song in their heads and Deacon casts haste on everyone. It was then that the spider tried to open the door. Bharash opens the door and he sees the same spider that stole Talin before. Vogh begins her dance to get the fires burning in everyone.

Those in the door can see another thing with a giant maw that contains a pair of dripping tusks, but it is its gangly third arm that makes its appearance truly bizarre. Each of its three huge paws hold a massive, gleaming battle axe.

“You are one ugly thing”, Bharash says. Even as he says it the thing came on and swung one of its blades hitting part of the door frame instead, shuttering the walls with insane strength. Julia saw the spider and cast her dimension lock on it so it couldn’t disappear or go ethereal on them.

The dragon and rider keep hovering and edge nearer the giant egg thing near the end, but have not taken notice of the doomwalker yet.

Talin begins his Satire song again.

Suddenly a floating spiritual weapon moves and attacks Kal but thankfully missed. Deacon then summoned his earth elementals once more. 2 of them attack the lizard guy but aren’t able to hit him. The others attack the spider inflicting great pain on it.

The spider withdraws cussing the anchor spell as he tries to phase and scampering away on 2 broken legs.

Bharash then charges the big guy and receives a smack on the shoulder for his efforts. His first attack gets through the defenses of the big guy and hits him good. Vogh moves out to attack as well. Her first missing but the second one put a hurting on him as she backhands and catches the big guy in the groin.

The big guy moves back to keep you all at a distance and then focuses all his fury on big Bharash. Bharash no amateur to battling big things, dodges both attacks from the big guy this time.

Julia then cast her Prayer to aid the others.

The dragon and rider close with the “egg” and observe it again, still hovering. The lizard man takes a 5 step back and touches the spider who was now buy him. Talin and Kal see the wounds closing and the sickening pops of joints returning to sockets. The spider hisses in irritation and all its eyes glow with fury moved up the wall 20ft to get away from danger.

Bharash charges again dodging the swing from the big guy this time and made a powerful slash of his own hitting a critical artery as blood sprayed out from the wound. Vogh then charged as well and hit it hard killing the big guy. Julia steps forward and dispels the hammer.

“What from the nine hells is that Avach?!” Belie exclaimed as the dragon summoned something. “From the nine hells indeed my friend… That is a Glabrezu demon…” Avach said.

Back to the other room, Kal charged and killed the lizard cleric with the help from the elementals who pummel it. The spider now alone climbed up another 40 ft. Deacon seeing the spider so high and with the only way to hurt it was to summon some air elementals. As they appear the earth elementals disappear. When they appear they charge the spider and slam it to death and it falls back to the ground where the others are.

Back in the corridor the Glabrezu summons 2 Vrocks, “Guys! There are MORE!” Belie calls out to his friends. “We need to stop them or more things will be coming. Those demons are known to summon more”. “Those are some powerful creatures Ms. Vogh…” Avach explained. “Can wait to have the summons disappear. How long would that take”? Deacon hears the words in his head and says, an hour cause it is a summons unlike my spells”.

The summoned Vrocks fly into the air and approach the giant egg and the dragon and demon move back. The Vrocks flap their wings and pass through the surface of the “egg” floating 25 feet in the air moments later, they both emerge and one is carrying something small in their claws. The Vrock holding the item flies to the dragon and shows the item to it. The Glabrezu jumps as both, huge, stone doors on the building slam open. Out steps what would look like an angel, but rather than a being of light and good, this entity is pure evil. Black skin sports four wings, blood-red feathers. Its eyes glow with yellow hate. The giant holds forward a huge greatsword that pulses with inner fire.

The fallen angel flashes forward at the Vrock holding the stone and slashes, once, twice, thrice… each time hitting home, flame exploding with each contact. The broken body of the demon falls to the ground, still alive, but unable to fly. It drops the stone and tries to scoot away with its remaining strength. The angel touches down and retrieves the stone.

With its sword still flaming, the fallen angel seems to converse with the other beasts. It seems oddly at ease, despite facing incredibly powerful foes. Finally, the black skinned angel looks past the flying dragon and notices the doomwalker… The ebony “man” converses with the dragon and demon who look back, seemingly noticing the machine for the first time. The unharmed Vrock approaches on orders from the Glabrezu. It closes the distance, flying down near the things face, inspecting it. It flies back over, keeping its distance and the group hear it speaking. Vogh can understand the thing’s speech as explaining the machine seems inert. The ebony skinned man walks over to the floating egg and underhand tosses a small, white stone back into its floating mass then turns his attention back to the doomwalker. It answers in abyssal, “But that is NOT where it was left… someone had to of moved it. “Destroy it for me and I will tell you where the grail is, then allow you to leave here alive…” The black angel commands.

The Glabrezu and Vrocks move closer and try to battle the doomwalker. The Vrocks attack it with a flurry of claws but are unable to even scratch the surface of the powerful construct. The ground shakes with the 6,000 pound and 18 foot tall demon’s pounding run as it charges the doomwalker and attacks. Though it hit the construct many times it too was unable to do any damage. In a huff the large demon changes tactics channeling its energy, the demon unleashes the power of chaos. From his hands he emits a multicolored explosion of leaping, ricocheting energy. An energy hammer crashes into the construct and this time it deals a tiny bit of damage to the construct. Again the Glabrezu changes and steps back a bit and uses another of its abilities to reverse gravity.

Not wanting to lose the construct, Vogh tells Talin to grab the ground and hold position. This movement though let the enemy know that the construct was still being operated.

The demon steps back and observes the machine, waiting in anticipation to see if it does something else

It was then that the dragon flew over, “Never send a brute to do the job” the fiendish red dragon growls and as it flies forward it breathes fire on the machine. The construct took the breath attack and charges the dragon Belie letting lose a line of fire itself hoping to kill the rider. Though the line of fire didn’t kill the rider it distracted him long enough.

Deacon who is not in the contraption summons some air elementals on the other side of the glass. The immediately fly down the corridor but can’t reach the enemy. The others moved to attack the Glabrezu hoping to kill the demon at least. The group exchanges blows with the Glabrezu and it finally has enough. It steps back and 5 more images of itself appear suddenly. The doomwalker strikes out multiple times but only hits the images of the Glabrezu.

The dragon moves in and tries to attack the doomwalker. It unleashes a series of attacks, but nothing is able to penetrate the constructs defense. The elementals continue to fly into battle but just can’t reach the battle. Both Belie and Avach let loose the fire and acid at the Glabrezu causing minor damage against its natural resistance to such elements.

The dragon gets a bit of height and then casts a spell to destroy the construct. Thankfully its natural protection halves the damage it would normally take and isn’t destroyed. After some more back and forth between the Glabrezu and the construct the air elementals arrive and attack one of the Vrocks to no affect.

The dragon now able to breathe his fire, does so and finally the construct becomes inert having taken too much damage.

With the doomwalker down the companions remove their helmets and decide their next move. After a few suggestions they decide it is time to leave this place. The construction on the broken warding generator should be close to being done and they could leave the place.

———————————————————–
The group of friends watched the spectacular war machine go down beneath the bombardment of evil from the massive red dragon, the demons and all without the fallen angel even entering the fight. As one, they knew the fight was over. The Banewarren’s team knew they were overmatched, despite their combined might. Arrayed against them, on the other side of a wall that seemed much less sturdy now that the machine succumbed, was arrayed against them creatures of legend. A construct the likes of which not one of them had ever dreamed couldn’t even stand against the troop. Thinking of more than one such machination going into battle seemed beyond reckoning.

Regardless, it was time for the mortals to flee this place. Without the full staff it would be impossible for them to destroy the hand key, but at least they possessed the sealing rod. Additionally, two great allies were working to reseal the evil warrens while they delved deeper.

Bharash and Belie couldn’t be forced to flee before picking the corpses clean from the other room. Finally, the group went through the hole in the floor and descended the countless stairs. Moving as quickly as possible, the group didn’t even bother to slow at the appearance and approach of the banebrutes. So fast they moved, the beasts didn’t even close the distance before the fleeing mortals passed them by.

Floating and climbing down from landing to landing, reversing their progress and retracing their steps the six reached the spire floor and exited the natural formation back into manmade tunnels. Passing back through the secret room behind the silver dragon’s beautiful fountain, then through the glass floor room that had once trapped the fabulous immortal drake, finally through the strange hall of statues the group entered the generator room to see the seemingly asleep silver dragon.

Vogh
———————————————————–
By the time Vogh and the others had arrived at the generator, they were quite winded.  It had taken them days to reach the top of the tower and after a short stop to gather up the constructs they had run into in one room, Vogh and the others had taken only a few hours to reach the generator room they now stood.  Pausing to catch their breath Vogh knew that their next tasks would be of major importance.  Perhaps they didn’t have to leave the warrens quite yet.  If they could gather Saggarintys and others from the city it could be possible that they could once and for all seal off the banewarrens for good.

When Vogh saw the great worm sleeping inside near the generator she wondered if he had ever moved.  Vogh motioned for the others to hold back while she went in to see if she might once again rouse Saggarintys.

Mighty Saggarintys, it is I, Vogh Kath. It has been a few days since we last spoke and I am not even sure if you can hear me, but we desperately need your assistance or your guidance.

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
The mighty silver shook his head at Vogh’s words and raised it, slowly cracking open his serpentine eyes, each larger than Vogh’s head. A great rumble from his throat vibrated each person in their armor in what they assumed was the massive being clearing his throat to speak.

“I hear you little one. I hear you… Things are better than I expected due to the nature of my captivity, but the warrens need my tending.”

The shake of his scaled neck caused every mortal in the room to take a step back. Another rumble as the huge dragon cracked his jaws wide open in a massive yawn. The smallest of his teeth still dwarfed Avach’s two handed sword. Glad all were that he was on their side.

“Where have you ventured? What have you found? What do you need…?”

[Private to GM: Remember the dagger! Say one of the dead guys had it and the thing calls to one of them when they reach Sag.]

Vogh
———————————————————–
The massive Saggarintys made the place shudder under his movements and Vogh just marveled at his form.  Vogh and the others had much to tell Saggarintys.  They had been to other planes and beyond and fought many evils the past few days.  Vogh spoke of the Vrock, the Giant Construct, the Chain Devil, the Darkstar and more.  She took Saggarintys to the top of Jabel Shammar and the Doomwalker.  Finally, they relayed why they had come back.  While we controlled the doomwalker we were besieged once more by intruders in the command center.  Thankfully, we were able to kill them so they couldn’t have the key to the banewarrens.  But, even as we dispatched them, a large dragon which seemed possessed appeared in the main chamber and began to summon a large Glebrezu and other smaller vrocks it then had a vrock pull a stone out of a large floating egg.  When this happened a black angel with 4 wings and a huge blade came out of a building near the egg.  It brandished the blade and sliced through the vrock almost killing it instantly.  The black angel and the dragon spoke some and that was when the black angel spotted the doomwalker construct which it obviously hated.  After offering the dragon a reward for killing the doomwalker, the dragon and demons attacked the doomwalker we controlled and after some time the doomwalker was finally disabled.  We didn’t stick around long enough to see what happened next as we feared the dragon and demons and possibly the black anger might have come for us knowing the control center was near and occupied.

Our first thought was to come to find you and ask what you thought we should do.  There is no way we can defeat the foes before us and complete our mission without some sort of aid.  It is either that we finish fixing the generators and seal up the place with what we have and hoping no one finds the key again or we gather our resources and go attack the foes before us.  I think that we could together defeat the red dragon and its rider as long as the angel is not there.  Once the red is finished we could then figure out how to best defeat the angel.  I personally would like to accomplish the latter option.

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Saggarintys listened intently to each turn in Vogh’s tale, never interrupting. When she had finished the dragon simply nodded once and began speaking.

“I do not understand how so many already know of the Banewarren’s apparent openness, nor how they are entering this place?! You said they merely appeared among you and inside the Dread One’s path? That should not be possible… Only a wish or the direct intervention of a deity would grant such access, and even those work only now because of the other damaged generator and Danar’s own hand having opened the great doors. What do you know of these beings?”

Explain whatever you will about the Pactlords, I’m going to move on with my post

“As to the ‘black angel’ as you called him. I knew him as Bastion, Guardian of the Morning. He aided Danar, Parnaith and myself to build this place. When Danar turned to become Eslathagos Malkith, the Dread One, he used a horribly evil artifact called the Antithesis Stone to turn Bastion evil. Bastion was thereafter known as, the Malificite. It was a poor choice, for the brute turned on Danar almost immediately and apparently Danar locked him away with a doomwalker to watch over him. Good it is that the evil thing seems still locked in the Path. For now…”

Saggarintys blew out a long sigh, which cooled the room considerably, causing a chill to pimple the arms of all those present with him. He seemed not to notice their discomfort at his seemingly simple exhale.

“Bastion is a powerful Planetar, or was rather. That title no longer suits one so evil. Not that it was his fault. He had no choice after touching that awful artifact. Bah. He is formidable, for certain. Add a red to the list of our foes and indeed the situation seems untenable.”

Again the great silver fell silent and was clearly thinking.
“I share your desire to once and for all be rid of Malificite. It’s a pity, but he cannot be redeemed in this life. Perhaps a god will take pity on him in the next. And no silver worth his scales would ever pass the opportunity to kill a red. Let us venture forth and pray to all the gods they will favor us this day.”
The giant silver raised himself up onto all four legs thicker than the largest trees any of them had ever seen. He proceeded to ask them their knowledge of red dragons and the best ways to damage them. Most of the group knew basic dragon lore and Saggarintys offered up a few tips to aid their knowledge.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh explained the basics about the pactlords themselves and then went into specifics about some of them that they had run into.  The organization has all sorts of monstrous members, we have defeated a mind flayer, bugbear, gnoll, and a hag.  Vogh goes on to tell of the others as well ending with the last ones they just defeated.  They apparently had all gotten into the banewarrens via a wish spell.  The last ones had wished to go where the most powerful artifact was and it happened to be the antithesis stone.  The dragon seemed as if he was fiendish.  I had plenty of time to study him as we fought with the doomwalker.  There was a bugbear on his back too.  Not sure what he was capable of either as he didn’t do much in the minor battle.  The red as I said summoned a Glabrezu.  Not sure what else he is capable of.  Vogh then went on to explain all the capabilities of herself and each of the others did the same.  We will all ensure that we prepare for the battle as best as possible.

As Sag continued on telling about Malificite Vogh knew that they would have their hands full.  If they could somehow get the doomwalker operating again perhaps it would aid them in the battle with the plantar.

Once all was shared they had all decided to head back to find the red.

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Saggarintys listened as Vogh explained further, and the rest of the group piped in comments an details. The silver stretched out his tail and neck then started to visibly shrink before the group inside the generator room. His glistening silver scales started disappearing, being replaced by pink flesh. An impossibly long tail shrank into the small of his now elven back as massive legs and claws became hands and legs. No longer a dragon, Saggarintys was now a male elf, quite naked, standing before them. His eyes retained their reptilian slits and glistened silver, matched by flowing silver hair that fell to the middle of his strong back.

The dragon-turned-elf nodded and began to walk out of the room when he stopped suddenly and turned his head from side to side. Sagg stopped and turned on his naked heel to face Belie. Rather startled the rogue widened his eyes, meeting the gaze of the impossibly old being now staring at him. Silver eyes scanned him up and down without speaking until they settled on his right hip, opposite the one that held his fabulous rapier.

“What do you carry little one?” Sagg spoke with a mellifluous voice, too deep for his size. but beautiful in its resounding resonance.

Belie looked around to the group, finding surprised looks coming back his way. “What do you mean? I carry a great many things… great dragon…” The clearly unnerved man quickly tacked on the honorific in an attempt to assuage any wrong he might have inadvertently committed.

“Yes. Yes. That may be true… but you carry something very special… It calls to me…”

Still the young man didn’t know what the dragon-elf meant so he simply pulled back his cloak to reveal the many daggers, pouches, and compartments on his belt, in addition to the magical rapier. Much to Belie’s dismay, Sagg’s elven eyes narrowed in anger and he spoke with more of a draconic growl than an elven timber,
“And where room did you lift that bauble from, nimble fingers…?!” Sagg stabbed his finger at a truly beautiful weapon none in the room had seen before. Vogh and the others noticed a long-hafted dagger, with an ornate blade set into a a silver-and-blue hilt with white diamonds set around the pommel.

Belie was shaking his hand rapidly at the dragon’s slow advance. “Truly no room sir! I removed it from one of the beasts we killed at the top of the spire.”

That pronouncement gave the silver elf pause, shown by his furrowed brows on a flawless face. “No room you say? This item was not inside the warrens until this group of vagrants teleported inside? That’s what you are saying? Speak plainly…” The last two words were clearly spoken as no small threat that if Belie lied, he would likely be eaten or turned into a frozen rogue-statue.

“No! Yes! I mean yes! That’s what I’m saying. The item was on the body of a lizard man which we killed all the way at the top of the spire. It was not in any room. I did not take it from the banewarrens. I took it off the that lizard…” Belie was white; pale white, and stammering over his words to explain rapidly.

“Give it to me.” Saggarintys demanded with an extended hand.

Belie grasped the ornately jeweled dagger’s pommel with only two fingers and gingerly removed it from his belt, shaking as he held the dagger out for the dragon-elf to retrieve.
The elf screwed up his face in disgust as he regarded the weapon. “Evil should not have left its taint on you Yaeshla…” He spoke softly, as if addressing a friend. Eyes closed the elf began to chant and a wave of magic passed over the dagger. Julia could sense the evil taint on the item indeed, but after Saggarintys’ casting, the taint was gone.

Holding the dagger in an open palm he presented it to the group. First he addressed Belie, then the rest of the assembled. “You had no idea what you were holding little one. I know not how she came into the possession of the brutes you assailed, but this is Yaeshla, haft of the staff of shards, created by the finest elven artisans specifically to destroy Eslathagos Malkith.”

===========================================================
Yaeshla
———————————————————–
“Ah! Great Saggarintys! Mighty Silver King! I Thank you!”

The voice sounded in the room as if spoken from Sagg’s hand, clearly originating from the dagger. It resembled the voice of a child.

“Greetings my saviors. Glad am I to be free of the clutches of the evil Pactlords and among friends once more! It has been too long!”

Saggarintys nodded, looking at the dagger as it spoke. The dragon asked the dagger, Yaeshla, to explain how she had come to be here.

“It has been so long! Were I to tell my full tale, these mortals would pass into the next life before I finish my friend!” The childish voice, feminine in quality, giggled a bit as if she just told a joke.

“Indeed I was created by the finest elven artisans to destroy the evil Eslathagos Malkith, the Dread One. And destroy him we DID! I was once an elf, longer ago than I can possibly count in years, but my body was failing. So my soul was crafted into the staff of shards that I might aid mighty heroes in ridding the world of the worst evil ever seen. I was broken in our battle with the Dread One, fulfilling my destiny, as we obliterated the awful creature! Maeritha Moonrise, my wielder, fled with me and one other piece, my rodlike midsection. Unfortunately my tip was left in the deepest portions of Jabel Shammer, in the Dread One’s Path. Despite Malkith being dead, his evil fortress had magical wards which threatened us. Everything was sealed behind us. Despite no longer being my full self as the staff of shards, I wanted to be useful! So Maeritha gave me to her apprentice, the half-dragon half-elf Thurnuin. It was he who grafted the blade to me, making me into a dagger. Unfortunately, after Maeritha’s passing, Thurnuin began gathering some very disturbing companions in the Quaan, which Maeritha created. It was her own extradimensional realm. Beautiful and lush! Only to be devolve into a fetid bog thanks to the beastly pactlords.” She practically spit the word like a curse.

“Thurnuin brought to him a beholder named Charch-Pahn, a mind flayer named Ilaprisarol and a black dragon that called itself Father Claw. Together, the four of themswore a Pact to work together from the pocket dimension of the Quaan to eliminate the hated humanoids ‘infesting’ the world. Ahh… Saggarintys, I don’t know if Thurnuin was always evil, fooling everyone, even Maeritha, or if something corrupted him near the end. But I do know his anti-humanoid feelings sprang from the ridicule he received due to his half-draconic heritage. Nevertheless, centuries passed, and the Pactlords grew in power. Father Claw left and many original members died. As far as I know, only Charch-Pahn still lives. He’s a nasty, shriveled husk of a beholder. I was ensorcelled to operate as a spy for the Pactlords! They subverted me to their darkness! The brutes passed ne around from owner to owner among the Pactlords of the Quaan and their servants until I was finally given as a ‘gift’ to the human Heth Neferul. I was actually there to observe his actions and report back to pactlords. Heth returned to the Quaan after suffering some defeat on the material plane and I was given to S’Errit the lizard cleric. It was on him I was when he was killed by the one you took me from just now. Glad am I that I remembered nothing before destroying the Dread One! So I could never reveal anything of the Banewarrens to them. To a one the group is obsessed with finding something called the Black Grail. I don’t know all it does, but apparently it’s a mighty artifact trapped here in the warrens somewhere.”

Yaeshla actually let out a little laugh. “The idiots wished Ferendis and Sarth to ‘the most powerful item in the banewarrens’ which apparently isn’t the black grail! Haha! Serves them right! Phew. So that’s most of my tail. I desperately wish to be whole again Saggarintys! Maeritha believed it impossible for all my pieces to be reunited, but I believe it’s possibly Silver King!”

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
As they were set to leave and the great Saggarintys now in elven form turned on Belie, Vogh began to wonder what the great wyrm was speaking of until Belie finally revealed the dagger on his hip.  It was a beautifully crafted dagger and Vogh could only hold back a giggle as she figured why Belie had never said anything about it before now.  Course he and Bharash had just looted the corpses of the pactlords before fleeing the upper reaches of Jabal Shammer.

After Saggarintys cast his spell which Vogh tried to identify, 08:32, Today: Vogh rolled 21 using 1d20+8.  spellcraft check. Vogh heard the childlike voice come from the dagger.  As the two began to speak with one another, the companions listened on as the dagger named Yaeshla wove her tale.  It was then that Vogh revealed that they had attained the sealing rod and in fact pulled it out of her pack right then.  The beautifully crafted rod with a dragon’s head seemed as if it belonged with the dagger.

Are we supposed to join the two pieces together or do we wait till all the pieces are gathered?  It was then that Vogh had forgotten a small but very important detail about the holy grail.  Malificite had bargained with the red dragon and told him that if he destroyed the doomwalker that he would tell the red where the grail was kept.  I can only assume that that was done and the red was headed to the grail even now.  The only thing that I do know is that the red and his rider will have to find another means of return to the Quaan since we killed the one creature that could return him back to the Quaan without another wish spell.

Vogh also told Saggarintys that they had promised Geristranomos that they would not open any vault doors as they had moved through the warrens and since they hadn’t seen the holy grail it was most likely still sealed behind one of the doors they bypassed.

Sagg had cast a simple dispel magic spell, Vogh and the others could tell easily. Apparently that had been all that was needed to remove the evil, which was curious. The Silver King listened to Vogh’s explanation of the recent happenings.

===========================================================
Yaeshla
———————————————————–
“No. No. What you hold there is the Sealing Rod! Lucky you have it! You must have recovered that from the Dread One’s destroyed self. I hope you didn’t touch any of his remnant clothes, gear, or even any remains…”

Yaeshla affirmed it was good they had not!

“Any who even come into contact with the evil one’s items would be horribly tainted. Regardless, that’s not part of me. No. No. But that is a vital piece of the puzzle!”

Everyone could hear the spoken childlike voice emanating from the dagger, which was a queer feeling as the item had no mouth, face or anything else to indicate where the voice originated. Yaeshla continued explaining.

“One piece of me remains in the Quaan with the terrible pactlords, and the other piece should be somewhere near the peak of the spire. I would have thought you found it in the same room as Danar’s destroyed form. If it’s not there then someone must have removed it… We must find it!”

It was clear the sentient weapon deeply desired to be whole again.

Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
“Damn Malificite. Damn him down to the nine hells! Eggbreaker! The Black Grail is a horrid, horrid thing! We MUST make certain these fiends don’t get their hands on it.”

This was the most animated and urgent the group had seen Saggarintys since after they first freed him. The dragon-turned-elf was greatly agitated.

“It is good the red and its rider are likely trapped. There is no mundane exit from the Dread One’s path, so they will have to smash through the wall or teleport to the opposite side. Hopefully they lack such an ability… We should hurry.”

[Private to GM: This demon will appear in the big room and attack Bharash b/c of the black rings he carries: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/besti…tsiders/demon/nabasu]

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Vogh was disappointed that the sealing rod wasn’t part of the staff and there were still two other pieces that they needed to recover.  Besides locked behind sealed doors, the only other place they hadn’t searched was the structure that was at the end of the dread one’s path.  Perhaps the 2nd piece was inside?

When Saggarintys became more agitated and anxious, Vogh knew it was important they move quickly.  As they began to move towards the exit of this area Vogh asked, should we head towards the dread one’s path or find the holy grail.  There is an area that seemed heavily guarded.  It was the spot where we found the sealing rod.

When we get close to the spot, I have things I am going to do before we encounter the red.  A little bit of buffing and such.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Just as Vogh and the other started to move towards the exit a strange pop happened and suddenly a demon appeared next to Bharash and lashed out with its claws.  Bharash’s armor easily deflected the slashes though.

The surprised adventures braced quickly for battle.  Belie rolled through the demons space to flank the beast with Bharash and stabbed out with his blade getting in a good hit.  Everyone then surrounded the demon and began to hack away at it.  Some of their blows hitting but not getting through it’s natural armor.

The demon then struck out at Belie who had hit him hard the first time.  The attack didn’t draw any blood from him but did zap his very life force. The group attacked once more inflicting more damage but not enough to kill the beast.

Suddenly, the lights went out as a deep darkness filled the room.  In the confusion the demon made his way past the group to the exit thinking to flee.  Luckily for the others, Julia had been holding her action to cast a spell.  As quickly as the darkness appeared, it disappeared once more.  Bharash used the opportunity of surprise to charge the demon and with a perfectly aimed blow he killed the thing dead.  Shorty the corpse began to disappear and fade back to the abyss which left the adventurers wondering what in the nine hells had just happened.

Julia meanwhile moved over to Belie and checked him out to see if he needed aid.  After a moment of observation she called Vogh over and asked her to give Belie a bit of healing. Vogh moved over and using her healing belt powers she played her hand on Belie, healing him of the damage he had taken.

Vogh then looked to the others and to Saggarintys and said, We better hurry before more things start popping up.

Saggarintys wore a concerned expression on his elven face and merely responded with, “Indeed…”

Everyone heard the youthful, feminine voice of Yaeshla complain as they started away, “Sagg! Next time use me! Not your brute fists!”

That drew a bit of a chuckle from the transformed silver dragon as he nodded in acquiescence.

Together the troupe retraced their steps yet again. Thankfully there was no need for pitons and rope when they reached the anti-magic zone. Mighty Saggarintys simply transformed into his true self and flew them over in two groups. Everyone was uncomfortable being in the clutches of such a mighty beast who could crush them almost as an afterthought, but for his giant size, Sagg was very gentle.

Unfortunately, the mighty drake could not revert to his elven form on the far ledge as it remained inside the anti-magic shell. This barely slowed him. Sagg merely transformed into his elven form, but retained claw like fingers rather than normal humanoid digits. With his impossible strength, the dragon-elf stabbed these phalanges into the stone and made his way across.

Sagg looked around constantly at every area they passed through, inspecting things and mentally cataloging changes. At the small and disheveled landing before they ascended the final flights of stairs the dragon-elf pointed to a vault door and informed the group,

“When the spire was formed by the very earth rejecting all the evil congregated here, the vault through this door was separated from the tunnels. But so strong was our construction, and powerful our wards, the vault was undamaged. We merely connected a tunnel to the vault once more.” It was clear he was proud of the work they had done, with a twinge of regret.

From the open air stairs in the huge cavern Sagg noted the bubbling, festering pool of thick, purplish liquid and frowned. “That was never there… Warrants some inspection when our task is done.”

Finally everyone ascended the final stair to enter the very lowest level of the spire. Sagg growled upon seeing the metallic statue with its serrated plates formed to resemble a demon.

However, he paid only a moment of attention as a blast of fire erupted through the hole thousands of feet above their heads which lead into the outer room of the Dread One’s Path…

The hole was wider than when the group passed through it. Gigantic claws scratched at the melting and damaged stone as the huge red dragon breathed upon the structure then continued to dig away at the structure!

Vogh

Vogh and the others followed along the path back to the top.  Vogh kept her wits about her and kept reaching out with her mind to see if there was anything else that was near.  When they finally reached the lower level and heard the blast of fire echo down the shaft from above, Vogh knew right away that the red had gotten through the main chamber of the Dread one’s path.

Looking up Vogh and the others knew that they needed to get up there as quickly as possible.  Saggarintys, it will take us some time to reach the top.  If the red knows where to go it will also have to dig his way through the doors as well so this will buy us some time.  We have discussed what we would like to do before we get into a fight.  Each of us has some spells that we would like to cast.  I think we should approach quietly so that we can possibly have some surprise if possible.

Together everyone made their way up the spire, clinging to the wall thanks to Deacon’s spell, and Belie’s boots. Sagg couldn’t help but stop off just a moment to inspect the, thankfully, still working generator at the halfway point which was at the same level that the group fought the strange grey ogres. The burnt husk remnants of the beasts still where the group left them. It was here the group cast their spells and began their ascent of the final half of the spire.

Still the impossibly large red dragon breathed fire on the hole and continued to tear away with his claws. So engrossed in his work was he that the group kept moving closer to him without inspection. Unfortunately, the hole was nearly side enough for the red to fit through, his entire head – adorned with horns and spikes more akin to a demon than a dragon – fit through.

Vogh and her companions knew they were discovered when the red beast let out an ear shattering roar.

You can see all the roles I made.

Vogh
———————————————————–
The companions continued up and up thanks to Deacon’s spell.  They were almost near the top before the red had discovered them.  It was obvious as the roar it let out almost split their eardrums.

Vogh didn’t want to be on the side of the spire when the huge red finally broke through.  Quickening their pace the group pushed on determinedly.

When Vogh’s arrow stabs into the nose of the red it growled back at her in fury and kept digging after pausing a moment to duck behind the ledge and mumble to itself fo ra moment. (cast mage armor , +4 ac now = 36 / Touch is 14)

The bugbear moves over to the ledge and fires down with his bow since the dragon isn’t breathing fire that round.

NPC Bugbear, rolled 27=(33-6) , 15 dmg.
I rolled randomly to see who he hit and it was Sagg… Who has an AC of 27.
So that’s kind of weird since he’s in elf form and simple clothes.
I guess it will hit him and bounce off?! haha

Actually, Sagg who is an adult silver should have 29 and also has +7 to his AC because of the shield spell and also the shield of faith spell. For a total of 36, So it misses.

Narrator:
Round 2:
The dragon is likely going to attack the archons, but I need you to position them.The bugbear will fire down again, this time at one of the group who are closer to him.
NPC Bugbear shoots Deacon, rolled 31 , 13 dmg

When the dragon goes to attack his frightful presence kicks in and they are panicked and teleport to Deacon.

Also if the bugbear is shooting at the closer group, that includes Sagg, Bharash, Belie, and Kal… not Deacon.  Depending who that is a 31 may miss…

Lastly, we should just go round to round now… so below is my third round.

Round 4

The red dragon casts another spell (Shield, ac = 40 in front), then continues to dig furiously at the stone, roaring loud enough to shake the stones. Those below had to tamp down the fear that the dragon could be breaking through at any moment.

The Bugbear fires down two more arrows, one bounces off Bharash’s impeccable armor, and the other off the invisible shield protecting Sagg.

NPC Bugbear, rolled 32,11,28,15 using 1d20+18-4,1d8+9,1d20+13-4,1d8+9.  Attack Bharash/Sagg.

Round 5

The bugbear switches his focus to Kal, but at the distance one arrow goes wide and the other smashes into the invisible shield protecting the Paladin.

Bugbear, rolled 26,12,19,10 using 1d20+18-2,1d8+9,1d20+13-2,1d8+9 ((10;3,8;1))

Again the dragon seems to use his innate magic, then immediately begins tearing at the stone floor, murder in his eyes as the hole widens farther and farther…

Vogh
———————————————————–
Round 6:
Julia, Vogh, Talin, & Avach move. (140ft and 80 from the ledge)
Everyone else moves 20 and Belie fires 1 shot.
(120ft away from roof, 60ft from the ledge

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
Belie moved forward just a bit, then leaned away from the wall while only his feet stuck, magically, so the stone. He held his powerful bow in one hand and pulled back on the stout string with the other, taking aim at the bugbear this time he loosed and found a seam in the heavy armor, drawing a shriek and blood.

Belie rolled 31,11 using d20+13+5-2,1d6+4+5

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Saggarintys casts his own mage armor spell, then continues climbing up the spire’s wall, maintaining the guise of him being merely an elf.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The bugbear growls and steps back as the shaft penetrates his flesh. Despite the pain it snaps the shaft and draws an arrow from a separate quiver, knocks and fires at Belie, then does the same again.

Belie grunted as the magical arrow stabbed through his armor (10dmg), thankfully the fast moving rogue narrowly dodged the second arrow.

NPC Bugbear, rolled 39,10,30,16

Meanwhile the red’s claws rained rubble down on the group climbing, ripping open the ever-widening hole. It would be any moment the giant beast would be able to fit its whole body through the opening. He paused long enough to concentrate on Deacon and send out a wave of dispelling magic.

Dispel Magic Check:
NPC Red Dragon, rolled 23 using 1d20+7 ((16))

Targeted Dispel: One object, creature [Decon] is the target of the dispel magic spell. You make one dispel check (23) and compare that to the spell with highest caster level (DC = 11 + Deacons caster level).

If successful, that spell ends. If not, compare the same result to the spell with the next highest caster level.

===========================================================
Deacon Havenhold
———————————————————–
Deacon gets hit with the dispel magic and suddenly he feels his spider climb has been disabled.  Immediately he casts a feather fall to stop any further decent.  (Since it is an immediate action I guess he only falls 10?)

As he is floating down Deacon casts fly and flies over to Vogh.

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Round 7:
Julia, Vogh, Talin, & Avach move. (100ft and 40 from the ledge)
Everyone else moves 20 and Belie fires 1 shot at the bugbear again.
(100ft away from roof, 40ft from the ledge.

Can Saggarintys cast anything else before or after moving?

===========================================================
Belie
———————————————————–
Belie, angered by the wound concentrated on the filthy brute as he knocked and fired another arrow. His shaft flew straight and true, again penetrating the bugbears flesh!

Belie rolled 28,14 using d20+13+5,1d6+4+5 ((10;5)).

===========================================================
Saggarintys the Silver King
———————————————————–
Unbeknownst to the group, both dragons used their innate magics to cast the same spell at the same time. Both Sagg and the red cast a spell to grant them both the grace of a cat.

Sagg’s Dex is now 14 so +2 to his AC

Red’s Dex is now 18 so +2 more to his AC.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The bugbear, now enraged at Belie harming him, the two trading shots, pulled two more magical arrows from his quiver and fired down at the rogue.

Belie’s AC is normally 29, what mods does he have? Prot. Evil? +3 to make it 31?
Any others? I’m trying to figure out if the 33 him him, b/c I know the 39 did.

NPC Bugbear, rolled 39,15 & 33,14

===========================================================
Vogh
———————————————————–
Round 8
Everyone double moves this time to make the ledge.

===========================================================
Narrator
———————————————————–
The red’s eyes blaze with an internal fire as he regards the group make landing on the ledge, oh so close to him. All of a sudden the form of the red dragon blurs though, obscuring his features and making it difficult to pinpoint his form. (cast blur. 20% miss chance) Then vicious claws ripped away more of the stone, widening the hole to a dangerous width. The red might be able to make it through…

The bugbear fires twice more, using more magical arrows from his quiver. Thankfully Belie was able to dodge one arrow, but yet another shaft stabbed into his body. The rogue slumped against the wall bloodied from 4 arrows now protruding from himself. He stumbled down the wall and fell into the room off the landing. “Julia… help…”

NPC Bugbear, rolled 35,17,20,14
