You couldn’t take the riverboat from the Bay of Ptolus all the way to the Nobles’ Quarters, but perhaps it could chug along around Midtown and the Guildsman Districts?

From the Ptolus Player’s Guide about the King’s River: The King’s River flows through the city, spilling into an eroded chasm in the northwest corner and flowing down to the Bay of Ptolus near the docks. The bottom of the chasm, called the King’s River Gorge, is eighty feet below the level of the ground on its north side, but more
than two hundred feet below on its south side. At the end of the gorge, the river plummets down two hundred feet in a tall waterfall, to flow more gently and toward the bay within narrower and more modest banks. The King’s River, which effectively cuts the city in half, is spanned by no fewer than twelve bridges. The south side still holds the old city walls and fortifications. A bridge built upon two massive pillars, themselves erected atop natural rock columns, stretches across the King’s River Gorge at a steep angle, leading into the area of the city known as Oldtown. Another bridge stretches across the chasm to join Oldtown with the Rivergate District. Although Oldtown is higher, the difference in elevation between these two districts is not steep, so the slope of this bridge seems far less noticeable than that of the other.

Story from Tom Cartos: For over a decade, The Maebelle has been a luxurious vessel ferrying tourists between Steepford and Farhaven (or somewhere in Ptolus) along the scenic River Hale (King’s River). With space for two dozen guests and a dedicated crew, the weeklong journey has been a popular and serene experience. However, recent weeks have seen the Maebelle sidelined due to a string of incidents orchestrated by cunning bandits (see the River Snakes from Secrets of the Delver’s Guild) who exploit the narrow points along the river. In a daring act during its last voyage, the boat fell victim to surprise boarders who not only robbed and manhandled the guests but also sabotaged the engine. Although the damages were eventually repaired, the once-thriving excursion is now struggling to attract passengers. Captain Bevan, both owner and helmsman of the Maebelle, is offering a complimentary journey, complete with food and board, to courageous adventurers willing to safeguard the ship from further assaults. Suspecting an inside connection to the bandits, Captain Bevan openly seeks protection but discreetly promises a substantial bonus for any sleuthing that unveils the traitor among his crew or guests.
